Can’t stop going to Akatsuki Not only the food is elegantly dressed and sometimes surprising (it really deserves to be called “gastronomic”) but also homemade - big up for the udon noodles. The prices remain totally accessible, on top of what the chef and his wife are simply adorable… I went there twice on the same week: you can eat so many different Japanese dishes (sashimi, udon, curry, tempura, Okinawa’s sweet purple potato ice cream…) that it deserves to become your fav place to chill and eat, away from crowds! Edit: I had the pleasure of visiting Akatsuki again this year (three times - can you tell that I am obsessed with this restaurant?) and had another wonderful experience. The sashimi was fresh and sensational as always. This time I also tried the udon hotpot (served piping hot in a clay pot), seasonal mountain vegetable tempura, Sakura shrimp kakiage and stir fried udon. Every dish was delicious and the chef perfectly brought out all of the best flavors from these high quality ingredients. This restaurant is my favorite in Japan and one of the main reasons I travel here - the chef is a true master and the proprietress is so warm and welcoming. I highly recommend Akatsuki. Do yourself a favor and try them out for yourself. I’m certain you won’t regret it. Absolutely blown away by this hidden gem. The sashimi was as fresh as can be, straight from toyosu - fatty tuna and sea bream were both top quality. The flavor of the udon was deep and subtle, and the noodles had a fantastic bouncy texture. The tempura was delicious as well, a complete steal for the price. The husband and wife team are extremely friendly and generous (I was given a sample of the wife’s homemade roasted garlic peanuts and the chef-husband upgraded my 3 piece sashimi set to a 5 piece upon learning it was my first time there).
