Al-Amir Restaurant was underwhelming at dinner tonight. The food was grossly overpriced (two rolls of meat and a cup of rice for $13?) and unremarkable (a grape leaf dolma as thin as my pinky finger?). The ambiance was somebody's idea of an authentic eatery in Beirut. It was Friday night and a belly dancer showed up in the middle of dinner (around 8:00 p.m.). She danced for 30 minutes and left. She was a good dancer, but the whole experience was rather comical. There are much better places for Lebanese and Middle Eastern food in Portland. Don't waste your time and money to go to Al-Amir.
