Alba is a charming restaurant located on Tenmanmachi in Takayama, renowned for offering a unique dining experience with limited seating. Interestingly, it operates within a cozy setting, accommodating just eight guests at a time. As a dine-in only establishment, it provides a specialized atmosphere where guests can enjoy a leisurely breakfast or lunch without the option of delivery. Reservations are advised if you don't want to miss the chance to savor one of Japan's standout meals here.
The menu is thoughtfully crafted with set courses that highlight both local and international flavors using Japanese produce and herbs. Guests have noted the owner-chef's skill in creating everything from scratch, integrating fresh ingredients into carpaccio, pumpkin gnocchi, and more diverse dishes. Although the restaurant lacks wheelchair accessibility, the intimate atmosphere tends to be popular among solo diners seeking a quiet meal. Alba also serves as a spot for enjoying great coffee and quick bites, alongside providing basic amenities like a toilet.
Alba welcomes patrons daily from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making it an ideal spot for those looking to enjoy a delightful mid-morning or late afternoon meal. While there isn’t recent information from the owner available, past visitors have shown enthusiasm for recommending the place to friends. Though lacking further insights into current offerings or special events, this eatery offers those in the vicinity a tailored dining experience that highlights simplicity and culinary creativity.

Probably one of our best meals in Japan: set 5-6 course. Make reservations a couple of days before you arrive, since there are only 8 seats. The owner-chef cooked carpaccio, prociuto & mozzarella, conger eel, pumpkin gnocchi, deer — all integrating Japanese local produce and herbs. Everything’s from scratch from bread to dessert to dried persimmons from his mom’s yard. In the years come we plan to send friends and visit Shefu Taue again. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Dietary restrictions: One of our party didn’t eat red meat, so he adjusted her menu.
