Having eaten at a lot of places across North America, I was genuinely impressed when I stopped in at Alloy a couple weeks ago after a late afternoon meeting downtown. The seared duck breast with the miso glaze was one of those dishes that actually stops you mid-conversation, and I kept thinking about it the next day. The room is intimate without feeling cramped, and the service hit that rare sweet spot where staff are attentive but not hovering. If you're passing through Calgary and want one proper meal, this is where I'd send you.

Pretty average for an expensive restaurant. I had chicken mole and it was instantly forgettable. Mole is often a thick chocolate complex spicy sauce but this was thin and kinda salsa-like with just two slices off a chicken breast. The desert was another disappointment. Tiramisu lady fingers had no hint of a good coffee soaked chocolate treat. Your experience may vary.
