2/5 Stars My wife and I were genuinely excited to try Aloy Thai Cuisine while visiting Boulder. The restaurant has received notable recognition in the past, including being featured by Guy Fieri, so our expectations were high. Unfortunately, while the food was decent, our experience was overshadowed by a very concerning pricing issue. For lunch, I ordered the Chef’s Noodle, which is clearly listed on the menu as $15. The menu also clearly states that shrimp is a $3 add-on and salmon is a $4 add-on. Before ordering, our server specifically confirmed that shrimp would be an additional $3 and salmon would be an additional $4. I agreed and placed my order. When the bill arrived, I noticed I had been charged $8 for the salmon instead of the advertised $4. I politely brought this to the server’s attention. After speaking with management/the chef, she returned and explained that because I had also added shrimp, the salmon was being charged as an additional entrée protein for $8. That explanation made absolutely no sense given both the menu and the conversation we had before ordering. The menu clearly states salmon is a $4 add-on, not $8 if another protein is added. I pointed this out and requested that they honor the pricing printed on their own menu. To their credit, they eventually removed the extra $4 charge, but only after some hesitation. Had I not carefully reviewed my receipt, I would have been overcharged. What shocked me most wasn’t the amount itself—it was the inconsistency between the menu pricing, what the server told us, and what ultimately appeared on the bill. That’s something customers should never have to deal with. As for the food: • The Chef’s Noodle with shrimp and salmon was flavorful and enjoyable. • The Khao Soi was rich and comforting and was probably the best dish we ordered. • The Mango Sticky Rice was disappointing. The mango itself was fine, but the coconut cream tasted unusual and lacked the flavor and texture I’ve come to expect from this classic Thai dessert at many other Thai restaurants. Overall, the entrées were good, but the billing dispute left a bad taste in our mouths. We came in excited because of the restaurant’s reputation and past recognition, but left wondering whether the restaurant has been able to maintain the standards that originally made it famous. My advice to fellow visitors and tourists: carefully review your bill before paying. There are several excellent Thai restaurants in Boulder, and based on this experience, I would recommend exploring other options first. Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the Chef’s Noodle and Khao Soi, but we're sorry for the confusion regarding the pricing and the frustration it caused. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will review the menu and ordering process with our team to ensure pricing is communicated clearly and consistently. Thank you for visiting, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide a better experience in the future.
