We came across the Alpine cafe yesterday Monday 29th June, having spent the weekend in the lakes and drove over to Bowness on Windermere. What a great cafe, very clean and great service. We had the English breakfast with Cappuccinos and glass of orange. Fantastic value and thoroughly enjoyed. The waitress was great and friendly and we laughed over comedian Peter Kay’s humour. As we asked for our bill, a group of retired locals came in, choosing their favourite table whilst moving another table to make camp for their group. When the waitress asked the main person what he would like to order he just said coffee and keep topping him up. How funny people are, setting up camp in their favourite cafe probably a daily/weekly visit to catch up whilst they use the cafe for a social gathering on one cup of coffee each . Locals attending like this means fantastic service and regular business. We need more of these places around UK to establish community spirit again and conversation. We were very lucky to be able to park in the spaces/layby on the road/hill approaching the cafe and opposite the cinema. You can park here for an hour which is more than enough time to enjoy breakfast at the Alpine cafe. There is also a shop next door to buy your morning paper and a treat of a Kendal mint cake bar for the day. Fabulous Lakes ….
