Sometimes the best Michelin experiences happen completely by chance. I discovered @altoristorante while looking for a hotel on my way back from Italy. After checking in, I noticed the Michelin star displayed at the entrance and asked the receptionist about the restaurant. One phone call later, my reservation was confirmed. Just 15 minutes later, I was sitting at my table. Despite the short notice, the kitchen had no problem preparing a vegan tasting menu especially for me. Italian vegan fine dining is always fascinating. Rather than simply removing animal products, the chefs reinterpret traditional Italian cuisine, creating dishes that preserve the flavours and spirit of the originals while using entirely plant-based ingredients. The meal was excellent, and I also appreciated that the staff spoke English, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. The only course that didn't completely win me over was the dessert. It resembled a jelly in appearance, which isn't really my favourite texture, although the flavours themselves were excellent. The five-course tasting menu cost just €95, which was a very pleasant surprise for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Later that evening, I looked out over the hotel parking lot and suddenly realised where I was. There were Ferraris everywhere. Then it hit me - I was in Modena, the home of @ferrari.
