Visited Always Lapar recently The café has a simple and casual atmosphere, and the overall environment felt comfortable for a quick meal with friends. Service was polite enough, and the food presentation actually looked pretty appealing when it arrived. I tried the Mee Jawa (Mihun) and the Nasi Lemak Popcorn Chicken. The Mee Jawa came with generous toppings like fish cake slices, half boiled egg, fried shallots, crushed peanuts, calamansi, crackers, and fried tofu pieces. The gravy had a nice thick consistency with a mildly sweet and savoury taste, though I personally wished the flavour had a bit more depth and spice to make it more memorable. Texture-wise it was enjoyable because of all the crunchy toppings mixed together. The Nasi Lemak Popcorn Chicken was decent as well. The popcorn chicken was crispy on the outside and stayed crunchy even after awhile, which was nice. Sambal had a sweet side and was not too spicy, so it may suit people who prefer milder flavours. However, the nasi lemak rice itself could have been more fragrant and richer in coconut aroma. The sides like peanuts, ikan bilis, cucumber, and papadam helped balance the meal. Also ordered the Soda Lemon Asam Boi and normal Asam Boi drink. Both were refreshing and probably one of the better parts of the meal, especially on a hot day. Price-wise, it feels reasonable for café-style food, with the total coming to RM37.50 for two meals and drinks. Overall, the experience was okay but not particularly outstanding. Food looked better than it tasted for me personally, and there’s still room for improvement in terms of flavour and consistency. Still, it’s not a bad spot if you’re around Cheras and looking for a casual local food café to try once. Meal type: Brunch Price per person: RM 1–20 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
