Stumbled upon Animoto after rambling around Ozu's sites. Was charmed by the warm hospitality of this quaint family-run restaurant. The sea bream in the taimeshi lunch was fresh and paired well with the dashi sauce, perked up by the raw egg and the wasabi tang elevated the whole taste bud. A memorable meal for both the food and feels.

Hesitated before going because I worried it might be tourist food. Our experience was so tremendously positive that my hesitation is laughable in hindsight. Second-generation business run by a wonderfully friendly couple who are studying English and keen to practice but also use translation apps comfortably. Loved that they drew us and a local into group conversation, willingly acting as translators for the group as needed. And the food! Had a wonderful meal - miso grilled fish set meal was great (that tofu! I don’t even normally like tofu!) and the chicken teriyaki was memorably delicious. Left after a couple of hours with a gift in hand and feeling like we had new friends in Ozu. Won’t forget that night! Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
