Antico Caffè Greco, located in the heart of Rome, is a historic establishment that boasts an elegant ambiance and lavishly decorated interior. While the prices are on the higher side, visitors are paying for the privilege of experiencing a piece of history. The café is more than 200 years old and has been visited by famous figures such as Charles Dickens, Lord Byron, and Mark Twain.

The menu at Antico Caffè Greco offers a variety of coffee and tea options, as well as pastries and desserts. Some popular items include the cappuccino, mocha, and tiramisu. The Rajasthan tea, which features black tea, fennel, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and pink pepper, is a standout item. For those looking for something stronger, the establishment also offers cocktails and wine.

While the service can be hit or miss, the staff is generally professional and knowledgeable about the menu. The outdoor seating area provides a great spot for people watching and taking in the beautiful surroundings. Overall, Antico Caffè Greco is a must-visit fine dining spot for anyone looking to experience a piece of Italian history while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee or tea.

Rome’s oldest café, founded in 1760, Antico Caffè Greco is less a coffee stop than a living museum of the Grand Tour. Goethe, Liszt, Keats, and Stendhal once sat here, and the red velvet benches, gilt frames, and statuary still carry that salon-like atmosphere. The macchiato and cheesecake I ordered were serviceable (6/10 and 5/10), but the price goes beyond what’s on the plate: it’s the cost of continuity. Greco faces huge rent pressures from its landlord and uncertain protection for its heritage. To sit here is to make a small contribution to a place that has outlasted empires, where conversation and culture have lingered for centuries.
