-
Erdinger Pikantus Weizenbock, Germany$7.99With over 120 years brewing tradition, Erdinger produce some of the worlds most loved beers. Once poured, this dark Bock beer wears a lasting head powered by endless carbonation, atop a caramel cola bodied beer. Sweetness retains the structure of the palate, weaving through the sticky clove and honey and vanilla paths. A hidden gem; stout meets wheat in perfect harmony.
-
Ayinger Oktoberfest Märzen, München, Germany$7.99A hazy deep golden lager with a puffy, perfect head...This is a mellow example of an Oktoberfest brew, quietly malty with just a trace of the typical spices. This beer would be a great match for roasted chicken
-
Julius Echter Hefe Weissbier Dunkel, Germany$5.99This dark hefeweizen displays a rich, lingering head foam, an amber-hued body, and the subtle aroma of banana and clove. The spicy flavor is enhanced by the silky mouth feel obtained through the use of wheat. The lingering finish yields to subtle roasted malt flavors.
-
Spaten Oktoberfest, Germany$5.99Amber in color. This medium bodied beer has achieved its impeccable taste by balancing the roasted malt flavor with the perfect amount of hops. Having a rich textured palate with an underlying sweetness true to tradition. 12 fluid ounces. Brewery: Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu
-
Bitburger Pils$5.99The classic Bitburger - a mature and most agreeable beer - is brewed with the best of ingredients in the same traditional way it has been for many, many years. The result is delicately tart and pleasantly bitter - with a strong hop taste. 11.2 fluid ounces. Brewery: Bitburger Brauerei
-
Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock, München, Germany$5.99Celebrator has a creamy head of tight bubbles contrasting beautifully with its profound dark robe. It is full-bodied and velvety from half a year's aging. Although it is strong, it is not overpowering. There is a wonderful and complex balance between the various malts, the alcohol and the subtle hops. A complex fruitiness of roasted malt and whole hop flowers make Celebrator great as a party drink with friends and family at celebrations. Despite its richness, it has a faintly smoky dryness in the finish. 11.2 fluid ounces. Brewery: Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer
-
Ayinger Brauweisse$5.99Delicious lemon and vanilla scented wheat beer with yeast. This is an aristocratic beer with a champagne sparkle and a beautifully sustained head. With the pale color of mountain honey and tart refreshing palate, it is a "brut" beer with the delicious, complex fruitiness of extra-dry champagne. Bottle conditioned and top fermented, it is a benchmark for this style of beer. The nose is fruity-spicy, herbaceous with lots of flowers, and fruit. With such a creamy head, you can build miniature mountains that resemble the Alps. Pour slowly, fill the special weissbier glass half full and swirl the bottle on the table to put the yeast in suspension.

Roederer ''Cristal'' 2002, Champagne 19 reviews , France$279.99Cristal, the jewel and tête de cuvée of Champagne Louis Roederer, was created in 1876 for the Tsar Alexander II of Russia. It remains faithful to its origin, inspired by elegance and purity. Cristal is produced with regimented standards of winemaking that require a rigorous selection of crus, vintages, grapes, and wine. Cristal is produced using only the finest vintages from crus guaranteed to originate from the Louis Roederer vineyard. All the exceptional characteristics of the 2002 vintage have literally been captured in this Cristal 2002, which is generous and lush, revealing perfect balance between concentration and finesse, freshness and vinosity, intensity and refinement. In three words: proud, rich and luxurious. Cristal 2002 is brilliant yellow with light amber highlights and has a beautiful mousse with fine cordon of persistent and regular bubbles. The nose is intense and delicate, revealing a clean and well-blended mixture of flavors of honey, cocoa, lightly toasted hazelnuts, candied citrus fruit. A savory explosion of ripe fruit on the attack, the wine reveals red fruit, white chocolate, caramel and Danish pastry, typical of Cristal. Its silky, concentrated texture relies on its intense, powerful and vinous structure, but maintains refinement. The palate builds up to attain a delicious sensation of well-blended harmony of flavors. A fresh finish with a hint of bitterness makes it almost crunchy. Critical Acclaim "If a wine could ever make you want to pull the top down on your '68 Ferrari convertible, rip off the rearview mirror and take off, this is it. It has a different kind of energy than the '02 Cristal Rose, which is more ethereal, like strawberries at the right hand of some ancient Gallic god. This is more insolent, brash, earth bound. All the scents and flavors seem to emanate frm limestone, as does the acidity, which hits at the front of the mouth and powers through the wine with the kind of solar energy that lifts mist off the white chalk on a cool morning in Cramant. The wine goes on for miles. It's already irresistible, and will only improve with ten, 20, 30 and 40 years of age." 100 Points Wine & Spirits "This is an exceptional wine, as is the vintage. The fruitsgrapefruit, crisp red applebalance with a fine yeasty character. There is a great depth of flavor, the fruits going in a pure line of freshness. The one problem is that it is much too young, the result of the demand from the market for the next vintage. Age this wine for at least four years." 98 Points Wine Enthusiast
-
Louis Roederer Brut Rose, 2008, Champagne 19 reviews , France$149.99An evanescent light pink color, with shiny salmony hints. Delicate bubbles, which quickly form a steady, creamy flow. The intense deep bouquet reveals a succession of finely complex aromatic 'layers.' First of all fruity, almost tart aromas of wild raspberry and bilberry, reminiscent of a mountain fruit sabayon. Next, sweet, warm, delicately rosy 'pink macaroon' floral hints, along with pithy citrus, orange and pink grapefruit. Finally, there are warm, sweet, spicy notes recalling the subtle use made of oak wood by Louis Roederer: hints of lightly toasted dried fruits, cocoa and chocolate. It has a lively bite in the mouth full-bodied, creamy, dense and balanced: a 'gourmet' treat! The tactile approach of the ripe Pinot Noir is very clear: rich and meaty, concentrated but not at all heavy, a combination of ripe fruit and precise, fresh flavors. The delicate, almost teasing bubbles add to this suave impression, which literally encompasses the sharp freshness. Following this first highly seductive contact, the 'tight,' 'sculpted' winy structure of the Pinot Noir appears once more, along with almost jam-like fruity, floral flavors, blending in perfectly with the minerality and freshness of the Chardonnays. Critical Acclaim "This is the first vintage released from the new cellar Roederer built in 2007, dedicated to the production of rose. It comes from the firm's estate vineyard in Cumieres. With the delicate color of a classic saignnee Champagne, this has the powerful expression of a grand cru wine, performing beyond its premier cru status. The fragrant red fruit has rich succulence and a chalky undertow, along with a fierce acidity that needs time to temper in the bottle." 95 Points Wine & Spirits "Sleek and mouthwatering, with spice and sea salt notes underscoring flavors of white raspberry, biscuit, candied ginger and orange zest. Refined and racy. Drink now through 2023" 92 Points Wine Spectator
-
Roederer Estate L'Ermitage, 2004, California, United States$72.99Fine tiny bubbles and a long lasting mousse are the usual footprints of the L'Ermitage cuvée. This cuvée is showing great notes of "tarte tatin:" baked apples and buttery crust, with notes of apricot and delicate vanilla bean. The mouthfeel is creamy, expresses flavors of quince and bread crust, with a clean and crisp yet long finish
-

This J non-vintage Brut gracefully opens up with crisp lemon peel, honeysuckle and delicate yeast aromas. The acidity adds just enough liveliness and the citrus zest leads to a lingering, warm pear and lush finish. Demonstrating an illustrious combination of yesterday and today, its fresh exuberance showcases layers of depth and complexity. ... Crisp and lively, with green apple, cream and fennel aromas and vibrant tropical fruit. The lemon and spice flavors finish on a clean mineral note. 90 Points." It's a satisfying Brut to serve with poached prawns.
-

A fresh, stylish wine with good structure, silky and elegant, based on the mineral notes of the best Chardonnay Grand Crus. The floral, fruity notes give way to subtle spicy hints for a pleasant finish on the palate. 92 Points, Wine Spectator "Elegant, with lovely texture and focused, lively acidity. Flavors of currant, candied lemon zest, honey and white peach lead to the creamy, biscuit-tinged finish. Drink now through 2019. 5,000 cases imported. " 91 Points, International Wine Cellar "Light, bright gold. Spicy citrus and pit fruits on the nose, complicated by ginger, toasted grain and a touch of honey. A sappy, somewhat hefty Champagne whose juicy pear, peach and candied orange flavors are lifted by gentle acidity. The pear and orange notes repeat on the nicely persistent, toasty finish.

Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Chardonnay, 2011, Napa Valley, California, United States$95.99From the Winemaker: "This Chardonnay shows a beautiful rich golden straw color in the glass with clean pure aromas of pear and crisp green apple, all overlaid with light tropical fruit notes and a hint of honeysuckle. On the palate, this wine has wonderful fullness and creaminess without being heavy. A clean soft entry is quickly followed by crisp acidity and a rich display of fruit including juicy nectarine and white peach along with a hint of lychee and fresh citrus. The flavors on the finish are reminiscent of pear tart while the oak contribution is well integrated throughout the profile, with just a touch of nuttiness showing through.
-
Trefethen Chardonnay, 2011, Napa Valley, California, United States$11.99Tropical and floral aromas highlight the entry of this classic Trefethen Chardonnay. Honeysuckle, apple, pear and lemon zest fill the palate. The cooler growing season and longer hang-times gave us very even ripening on the vine and thus produced a rich, well-balanced wine with bright acidity and a slight stony mineral finish.

Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay, 2012, Sonoma County, California, United States$57.99This Sonoma white wine's fruit aromas of green apple, lime and pineapple are complemented with touches of nougat, caramel and Sonoma-Cutrer's signature minerality. A crisp Chardonnay true to the Russian River Ranches style, the wine is elegant and balanced with a nice, bright acidity. Zesty flavors of lime, lemon drop and grapefruit are accented with peach notes and a nice barrel spice. This California Chardonnay has a light, creamy mid-palate flow to a citrus acidity for a long, lingering after palate. OBSERVATIONS ON A VINTAGE After two challenging years in the vineyard, Mother Nature blessed the 2012 harvest with an abundance of both quantity and quality. The season started with less than average rainfall, but perfect spring weather arrived in April and led to a nice, even bloom, setting the stage for an outstanding year. The perfect weather continued throughout the summer with no extreme weather events. The harvest began on September 5, and the beautiful cool evenings and warm sunny afternoons provided ideal condi - tions that allowed the fruit to ripen slowly. Several nice hot days at the very end of September got everything moving along and we finished the harvest on October 18. The fruit had a classic golden hue, lovely flavors and nice acidity. Quality and quantity don't often go hand in hand, but the season provided the winemakers with an abundance of outstanding fruit from which to craft this 2012 vintage. ON THE VINEYARD Russian River Ranches is a cuvée of distinct vineyard lots, each contributing its own personality to the wine. Our Vine Hill Vineyard whose quickly-draining, sandy, clay soils produce smaller berries, lower yields and add concentrated flavors to the blend. Les Pierres adds notes of lime & minerality. The younger Owsley Ranch stands closest to the Pacific Ocean and is influenced by cooling fog that adds a depth of character to the wine. At Shiloh in the Mayacamas Range, the warmer climate produces riper, more full-bodied fruit. The Kent Vineyard with its cool morning allows for extended maturation and adds backbone and elegance. And the Cutrer Vineyard, with its collection of unique, small vineyard blocks, provides us a spice rack of flavors. These vineyards come together to create a Chardonnay that is consistent from year to year and remains among the most coveted in each and every vintage. ON THE WINE Grapes were hand-harvested starting in the early mornings and then cooled down to 50°-55°F to preserve the fruit's fresh flavors and natural acidity. After hand-sorting, the grapes were gently whole-cluster pressed to avoid bitter tannins from the skins and grape seeds. The cool, clear golden-green, free-run juice was then settled naturally in tanks for a few days before heading to French oak barrels and stainless steel for fermentation. The wine was then aged sur-lies in a mixture of new and used French oak barrels. Fruit aromas of green apple, lime and pineapple are complemented with touches of nougat, caramel and Sonoma-Cutrer's signature minerality. True to the Russian River Ranches style, the wine is elegant and balanced with a nice, bright acidity. Crisp and zesty flavors of lime, lemon drop and grapefruit are accented with peach notes and a nice barrel spice. A light, creamy mid-palate flows to a crisp, citrus acidity for a long, lingering after palate. Alcohol: 14.2% TA: 6.09 gms/L pH: 3.33 RS: 1.60 gms/L 100% Chardonnay 95% Malolactic Fermentation - Oak aged for 8 months 17% New, 15% 1 yr., 18% 2 yr., 18% 3 yr., 32% Neutral Vineyard Breakdown - Vine Hill 23% Cutrer 9% Les Pierres 7% Shiloh 8% Kent 7% Other 46%

Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay, 2011, Sonoma County, California, United States$109.99Les Noisetiers is a combination of specific lots from vineyards situated in far western Sonoma County. There is an inherent mineral tone in the lots from these vineyards planted in coastal sandy gold ridge soils. An austere, low pH, high acid wine, the character Les Noisetiers is driven by mineral characters as opposed to fruit, and is a natural compliment to food. Vibrant green-yellow. Distinct nose of minerals, earth, and refined noble sulfides. A medium-weight, balanced presence on the palate, tightly wound around a resounding acid core, that carries through and beyond the crisp, yet lengthy and lasting finish.

George Duboeuf "Pouilly Fuisse", 2011, Mâconnais, Burgundy, France$48.99The wine is a fine example of its type, round, fleshy, full-bodied and hearty with poweful white blossom and almond aromas and dried fruit flavours with a sublte hint of figs. A great Burgundy age worthy. This is the almost Romanesque story of a wine closely linked to the soil, a superb white burgundy nourished and fashioned by a first-class "teroir". The surprising profile of the twin rocks of Solutré and Vergisson stand out against the sky like the prows of two ships. Beneath them, tthe most prestigious vineyards in the Mâconnais, Cru Pouilly-Fuissé, cling to the slopes with a mixture of pride and gentleness.
-
Ramey Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay, 2009, California, United States$109.99Located in gently rolling terrain north of Carneros Highway, the soils are quite heavy clay. Vine selection is old Wente, Robert Young and Long Vineyards each a Wente selection themselves ranging in age from 10 to 29 years old. The Wente produces a classic, Burgundian-style wine without the tropical fruit tones of some California Chardonnays. The Long Vineyards selection adds a floral note, and the Hyde Vineyard wines often seem charming and feminine. High natural acidity plays a prominent role.
-

Enjoy this food-friendly wine with Sole Meuniere or fresh pasta in a lemon-butter sauce and tossed with fresh peas and pancetta.Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Hands Of Time Chardonnay ..Details 2012 was a year that proved you should never judge the end by the beginning. It was slow to start, with heavy spring rains and a cool summer. A summer long on sweaters and short on, well, shorts. The "normal" start of the harvest season was delayed by two to three weeks in most vineyards. Mother Nature brought us a heat spell in late August, followed by another which, after a much longer time on the vine than most years, resulted in a rather compact harvest with white and red grapes coming in from the vineyards in tight succession. The slow grape maturity of the 2012 vintage aptly suited our Stag's Leap Wine Cellars house style, creating wines with great extraction and fuller flavors at lower alcohol levels. This Napa Valley Chardonnay offers pleasing aromas of lightly-spiced Golden Delicious apples and vanilla wafers along with citrus notes of tangerine and lemon. The spiced apple notes and hint of caramel carry over on the palate which has a solid core of fruit and a supple mouthfeel

Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Annivarsary,2012, Napa Valley, California, United States$119.99Over forty years ago, Charlie and Lorna Wagner embarked on an incredible journey with their son Chuck - starting a family winery in the center of Napa Valley. Now in its third generation, Caymus continues to produce world class Cabernet Sauvignon. "This wine exemplifies our style of Cabernet out of a great vintagedeep color, rich, concentrated and balanced. 2012 celebrates 40 years of producing our pride and joy, Caymus Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon." Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons a "Napa Valley" and the venerable "Special Selection". Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through "hang time" a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to "hang" on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine's fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla. - Chuck Wagner, Owner/Winemaker

Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, 2001, Sonoma County, California, United States$135.99From our first vintage in 1976, Tom Jordan has sought to create a soft, approachable Cabernet Sauvignon in which the winemaking is simply a logical completion of nature's work. With this in mind, Jordan Vineyard & Winery has successfully maintained a tradition of producing elegant, refined Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon in Northern California's Alexander Valley. The 2001 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented slowly and received a gentle extended maceration in order to extract, soften and stabilize the lush, elegant tannins and concentrated flavors from the fruit before pressing. Full malolactic fermentation followed in large oak casks to soften the natural acidity and enrich the texture of the wine. The young wine was then aged for twelve months in both French and American small oak barrels and six months in neutral large oak barrels before blending to achieve an optimal balance of flavors and complexity. After bottling, the finished wine received nineteen months of additional aging in our temperature controlled cellars before release. The continued addition of the fruit from our hillside vineyards is in part responsible for the well integrated increase in aromatics, depth of color and flavor and mid-palate feel in the 2001 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon. The bouquet offers subtle notes of cassis, black cherry, currants and chocolate. It is a richly textured wine with lush, ripe flavors of blackberry, Bing cherry, cassis and raspberry. Slight earthy notes of tobacco and cedar and a subtle framework of oak complete this delicious wine.

Pine Ridge Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011, Napa Valley, California, United States$78.99From the Winemaker: "Deep garnet in color, this wine presents an effusive nose that teems with aromas of fresh black cherry, warm blackberry and red plum, intertwined with hints of brambly spice, fresh ground clove and vanilla bean. The palate leads smoothly with rich red raspberry, cherry and currant fruit flavors that meld lusciously into hints of creamy caramel, cocoa powder, ground espresso bean and subtle mint leaf beneath supple tannins on the lingering finish. Fruit-forward and food-friendly as ever, this vintage of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon makes a versatile choice for pairing. It would be lovely served alongside many meals, from smoked beef brisket and grilled vegetables, to a vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries, to a seared, fennel-crusted ahi tuna steak and salad. Hard, aged gouda makes a classic cheese course with this wine as well.
-
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010, Sonoma County, California, United States$98.99With concentrated aromas of cassis, cherry, cedar, red rose petal and tobacco, this wine's complexity continues through the flavors, which include red currant, cherry, blackberry and blueberry with a hint of vanilla from oak aging. Round tannins balance and support this medium-bodied wine's ripe fruit. This wine shows beautifully in its youth and will continue to age gracefully for a decade or more.

Lokoya Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007, California, United States$499.99The appellation lies above the town of St. Helena on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains that separate Napa Valley from Sonoma Valley and the Santa Rosa Plain. Spring Mountain is similar to the Mount Veeder AVA due to the cool weather prevailing and smaller diurnal (day and night) changes. The vineyard is located at a 1,600 feet elevation with primarily weathered volcanic soils, with high drainage. The mountain terrain along with it's cool weather pattern create an environment for Cabernet Sauvignon to have intense dark fruit flavors, satiny tannins and great aging potential. If you have ever listened to Paco de Lucía, one of the masters of the flamenco guitar, you know that he can create a tableau of sound that, unlike that of any other guitarist of his era, possesses complexity, subtlety, power, and resonance. The 2007 Lokoya Spring Mountain takes you on a similar journeyâ"with the palate rather than the ears. The floral component, Italian soaked cherries, toast, minerality, and integrated fine tannins instantly transport you across a myriad of experiences.

Justin Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012, Paso Robles, California, United States$18.99Beautifully balanced, with attractive aromas of black fruit and spice, this smooth, ready to drink Cabernet is made with the same care afforded the highest quality, traditionally-made Bordeaux wines. Our grapes are hand-picked and then sorted by the berry for consistent quality and flavor. JUSTIN Cabernet Sauvignon spends more than a year in traditional small oak barrels to impart a depth and complexity to the wine that expresses the influence of the ancient limestone soils and unique climate of Paso Robles. Bright with a deep ruby core and violet rim. On the nose it presents an attractive mix of red and black fruit of currants, cherry and blackberry layered with spicy notes of anise, vanilla and with a subtle cedar character from an American oak influence. Complex with bright fruit of blackcurrant, cherry, and boysenberry mixed with licorice and subtle cedar notes on a long finish along with some mineral and cherry candy notes supported by smooth rounded tannins

Plump Jack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011, United States$184.99Plumpjack's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate shows lovely purity in its expressive fruit and the layered, floral/savory notes that are typical of year. Dark, nuanced and beautifully woven together, the 2011 impresses for its balance. The 2011 is of course quite different from the richer wines that are typical here, but it is highly reflective of the year and quite beautiful in its own right. The 2011 is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot. 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a successful effort in this more challenging vintage. Its black/purple color is accompanied by copious notes of cassis and blackberries intermixed with hints of charcoal and spice. Medium-bodied with less intensity than the 2010 Estate, but impressive purity and depth, it should drink well for 15 years.

Heitz Trailside Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008, Napa Valley, California, United Statesmpressive for its purity and elegance, our 2008 Trailside Vineyard Cabernet conveys the beauty of its Napa Valley heritage from the first sip. This wine is rich, yet restrained. It is evolving nicely with splendid varietal aroma that originates from a core of lush, dark fruit. Ripe cherry flavors and an undertone of spice are wonderfully integrated with fine-grained tannins, building to a lovely finish of great length. This Cabernet is a pleasure to drink today, and it has the overall balance to promise graceful aging for years to come.

Shafer Relentless, 2011, United States$189obert Parker 97 PTS From a more challenging vintage, the 2011 Relentless exhibits a similar opaque blue/purple color as well as remarkable concentration and balance. With stunning perfume, purity, texture and full-bodied richness, the 2011 is slightly more evolved and softer than the 2010, but it offers much of the same character. This compelling effort is one of the superstars of the vintage in 2011.

Cain Cain Five, 2009, Napa Valley, California, United States$145.99If the Cain Five is utterly unique, distinctive in both aroma and taste, this can only reflect the Cain Vineyard, which gives birth to this wine and is both spectacular and idiosyncratic. Composed of the five classic varietiesCabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit VerdotCain Five epitomizes the benefits of blending to achieve a complex wine. It is supple and rich of texture, combining a full, firm structure with a long and subtle finish. 2008 was dramatic for the vineyards of northern California. Between the frost, rain, fi re, smoke, heat, and rain (again), one had to pay close attention at every stage during the growing season and during the wine- making. The result: while there is not very much of this wine, we think it has been worth the eff ort. For the best vineyard sites and the most meticulous winegrowing teams, 2008 will be seen as a classic year in the Napa Valley.
-
Grgich Hills Zinfandel, 2010, Napa Valley, California, United States$99.99We grow our Zinfandel at our vineyard in Calistoga, which is certified organic and Biodynamic. Nestled in the northern tip of Napa Valley, the vineyard's gravelly loam provides excellent drainage and the cloudless days and cool nighttime temperatures are perfect for sun-loving Zinfandel. The vines are head pruned to protect the grapes from sunburn. All of these features combine to produce concentrated, complex flavors in the wine. We co-fermented the Zinfandel with a touch of Petite Sirah to add complexity and structure and then aged the wine in large oak casks so the flavors are well integrated but not overwhelmed by oak. Pure Zinfandel flavors of strawberries, raspberries and a hint of dried sage make this wine the perfect match for grilled steak, smoked brisket and pasta or pizza topped with tomato sauce.

Molly Dooker The Boxer Shiraz, 2012, Australia$80.99Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 The Boxer Shiraz opens with tons of intense chocolate, vanilla and spice intermingling with an aromatic core of ripe and berry preserves. Very big, full and rich, it is so concentrated you could practically stand a spoon up in the glass. The medium-level velvety tannins hold through the long, slightly hot, finish.
-
David Bruce Central Coast Petite Sirah, 2011, Central Coast, Calfiornia, United States$52.99Stretching in a narrow band from Santa Barbara to the San Francisco Bay,the Central Coast region is characterized by the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean. These grapes come from several vineyards in Paso Robles and southern Monterey. The resulting components display notable differences, some exuding bright,spice-tinged fruit while others are jammy, earthy and dense. The blend in many ways exceeds the sum of these parts, offering blackberry, blueberry and white pepper aromas, with a supple and balanced feel coming from our gentle handling of the fruit.Limiting the influence of new oak allows the fruit to shine through, making this wine versatile with foods, and ready to drink now.
