This was a pretty middle of the road choice for an Indian restaurant in UWS. I tried the mutter paneer with garlic naan, which were both decent.

This restaurant had the best indian food on the Upper West Side. It's permanently closed - with no sign it will reopen. I am beyond sad.

Ashoka Indian Restaurant was a quick stop before a museum date with me and my partner. We were craving Indian food and Ashoka was next door, so we decided to try it out. To start, we got the Manchurian Cauliflower, which was a solid 9/10. It was one of the best I've ever tasted. The sauce was sweet, tangy, and coated the cauliflower well. The cauliflower was fried so perfectly, in a crispy thick batter and fell apart easily in the mouth. Next we got the garlic naan paired with the butter chicken. The naan bread was 7/10, wasn't hot enough. But, the garlic and herbs were generously spread across a crispy toasted naan bread. Redemption was dipping in the butter chicken sauce. The butter chicken was pretty regular, a 6/10. The chicken wasn't especially tender, but it was passable. I have nothing else to say, it was just okay. Overall a 3/5. Not especially inviting but we were surprised by the cauliflower and the naan bread. Overall, we spent around 60, which was pretty pricey. The cauliflower was around $15, the bread $4 and the chicken around $23. Don't think I'll be returning, but it was an okay experience.
