Our first time dining at Asian Pot. The food and service was excellent. Spring rolls were hot and delicious. I had the Thai Mango with chicken and my wife had the fried rice with chicken. Both were tasty and large portions, so we had to ask for takeout boxes. The waitress and manager were very friendly. We will be back! My friends and I have been regular customers at Asia Pot because we genuinely enjoy the food. Unfortunately, one particular server (Asian short lean guy with spiky hair and glasses) has REPEATEDLY made our visits unpleasant, and our most recent experience was enough for us to walk out while he was takign our orders. During our most recent visit, as we were ordering, my friend ordered the red Thai curry with tofu. The server asked whether we were vegetarian because we had ordered tofu (only one order included tofu, everything else has meat). When my friend said yes, he informed us that the Thai curry contains fish sauce. I then politely asked whether it would be possible to make the curry without fish sauce. Instead of simply explaining that the curry base is pre-made, he responded, in a very rude tone, "Then you have to leave the restaurant and go somewhere else." After an awkward silence as we were too shocked to react, he said he was "just kidding" and only then explained that the curry base was pre-made. One of my friends pointed out that he could have simply said that from the beginning instead of making such a comment, but he continued to insist that he was joking. Telling paying customers to leave the restaurant as a "joke" is not appropriate customer service. This wasn't an isolated incident. On a previous visit, when I asked what ingredients were in a dish, the same server told me to "Google it" instead of helping or checking with the kitchen. On another occasion, he repeatedly questioned whether I really wanted to order beef, despite the fact that I had specifically ordered a beef dish. He has also made comments that have left us wondering whether we were being stereotyped because we are Indian. While I can't say for certain that this was his intent, the repeated assumptions and pattern of interactions made us feel singled out and extremely uncomfortable. To be clear, every other staff member we've interacted with has been friendly and professional, and the food has always been excellent. This review is solely about the repeated behavior of one server. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because no customer should feel disrespected or unwelcome when simply asking questions about the menu. That's a basic in the service industry! Although I intended it as a joke, it was clearly inappropriate in that moment and did not reflect the level of hospitality our guests deserve.
