Chance visit this Sunday at this restaurant when offered a last near entrance table for a single walk in. Turned up eventually the overall experience at this off the beaten track spot was striking which motivated me to share. The non beef set lunch menu offered was priced for a fish eater very reasonably. The starters and main course look minimalist but presented so beautifully and when eaten you can taste the perfect combination of food and sauce highlighting the uniqueness of the sauce especially when you compliment munching together with the warmed very well baked and tasty bread offered. One can truly fathom the vast effort put in to seek out the correct combining ingredients to produce this pleasurable taste. I ever heard some people mentioned that the fundamental uniqueness of French cooking is in the Sauce and this is the place I again get to experience it this time visiting France. Further, the wine menu is extensive enough to fish out a complimentary wine to enhance the tasting experience of Sauce + Bread+ Wine. I am fortunate to get it this time here. I salute the skill and human endeavour of the team here that produced the food also well served. This can help the preservation of the innovativeness and uniqueness of French cooking. Three Cheers. I had high hopes for Astral, but unfortunately, the experience fell well short of the mark. We are frequent diners at fine dining and Michelin-starred establishments, and while it feels like Astral is trying to achieve that level of service and sophistication, they are currently missing it by a mile and I would not recommend dining here. To start, our table wasn't even set up when we were seated. Things got awkward immediately regarding drinks; we declined the opening cocktails because we opted for the wine pairing, but nobody informed us the wine wouldn't arrive for another 30-40 minutes. We eventually had to ask for it ourselves, which felt completely unnecessary and awkward with the waiter. The service issues continued throughout the night. While our waiter was in the middle of taking our order, the main host actually pulled him away to do something else. He never came back. He walked past us several times, ignoring us, until we eventually a different waiter started the process all over again. To make matters worse, they brought us the wrong order at one point (fish instead of our dessert), which is surprising given it is a prix fixe menu. We were seated right next to the bar, so there were staff members around us constantly, yet our finished plates sat uncleared for 20 minutes at a time. We didn't get a single refill on our water/glasses without asking. It seems many of the servers are new or lack confidence; dishes were dropped off without explanation (which is a problem given how complex the food is), forcing us to flag down the main waiter just to understand what we were eating. As for the food, it was generally good, but it felt like the chef was trying too hard. The dishes were overly complex to the point where the flavors muddied the ingredients. Just keep it simple and let the quality of the produce talk. Overall, the service was at times a complete disaster. Between the chaos in ordering, the long waits, and the lack of coordination, it was a major disappointment. If you want a better beef Wellington, go to ART restaurant.
