One the best meals I’ve had in the last year and execution and flavors. So many incredible, clean flavors that combined well and so many wonderful textures that complimented each dish. I truly don’t understand how this place wasn’t packed on a Saturday night and would highly encourage a visit before it becomes hard to get a res. Service was excellent too. Favorite dishes:. Scallop: sudachi, miso. Caviar: woodruff, chervil ball. Fois gras pocky stick. Wagyu: chestnut, kastuobushi. Sablefish: corn silk, miso. The first two desserts. A wonderful tasting menu experience showcasing thoughtful seafood-focused dishes, paired with warm hospitality throughout. The meal began downstairs with a series of small bites, with the tartare and sablefish belly being my personal favorites. We were then invited upstairs for the main courses which unfolded at a relaxed pace and featured creative combinations of land and sea. The cod with green sauce, scallops infused with chicken essence, and smoked wagyu were the standouts for me. The meal ended with a long progression of desserts. While they were enjoyable, I found myself wishing there had been a few more savory courses, as the number of sweet bites felt a bit overwhelming by the end. Still, I walked away feeling full and satisfied. The space itself is understated, and I found the indie rock music in the main dining room to be interesting. Overall, a very promising fine dining experience that thoughtfully blends seasonal ingredients with Japanese and Nordic influences. We visited Atsumeru about three months ago, and I still find myself thinking about the experience. The food is exceptional—each dish feels like a work of art expressed through flavor. The team in the kitchen are true artists, and it shows in every detail. Every course is beautifully composed, with incredible textures, creative flavor combinations, and a thoughtful concept behind it. You can feel the passion, care, and craftsmanship in every bite. I honestly can’t choose a favorite because each dish stands on its own. This is absolutely a 5-star restaurant. Atsumeru is a remarkable culinary gem in the Chicago area, and I can’t wait to return.
