It is a bit difficult to find this place because it is really tucked away in a shopping center. If you were walking down the sidewalk you would never even see this place. This may account for why it was almost completely empty when I visited. I was looking for some some food from Bahia and this place delivered. I hadn't ever had any food from Bahia but I am so glad that I have now. I have been a bit disappointed with the food in Rio as a whole because of the high prices and bland tastes. This place has turned that around. I have been missing spicy food and was told that the food from Bahia is more spicy than what you usually get in Rio. I really loved it! While not cheap it isn't too pricey. I shared some mashed potatoes and the individual octopus moqueca with the person I was with. We had thought about ordering the one for two people instead of the individual, but it turned out to be just the right amount for two people. The octopus was some of the best I have ever had. It was tender and not rubbery at all. I also tried out the cashew apple caipirinha, which was great! I am going to come back to this place to try out some of the other menu items and I will also remember to take some pictures next time.

A baiana Mara Oliveira Callado trouxe da sua terra para o Rio de Janeiro a mesma qualidade das moquecas, acarajés e outras iguarias do tradicional restaurante da sua família, o Ki-Mukeka, que possui diversas concorridas filiais na Bahia. O local do Baiana Carioca, embora um pouco escondido, fica no centro etílico-gastronômico que abriga diversos bares e restaurantes tradicionais do Leblon. O atendimento tem a simplicidade, a cordialidade e a descontração da Boa Terra. Quem gosta de caipifrutas deve perguntar se está na época de frutas típicas como siriguela, umbu e cajá - as caipifrutas de lá são também excelentes. E se você mora no Rio e desejar fazer um almoço tipicamente baiano em casa, pode acertar o bufê com a Mara - ela também presta esse serviço. Porreta.
