Ube ensaymada is supposed to be fluffy but the bread was so dense. I’m 101% sure it wasn’t ensaymada. Lol The bibingka itself was salty and undercooked. Imagine eating salty undercooked bibingka with salted egg. The puto maya was waaaay too sweet (diabetes in every tiny bite kind of sweet)! The coffees were overpriced but tasted okay, nothing special. We got regular latte and turon latte (which is also too sweet, comparable to Tim’s french vanilla level of sweetness). I’m giving 3stars for the nice staff but overall not impressed. The place is also quite hard to find as the sign outside is not very clear. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

I've really enjoy Balay Coffee whenever I get the chance to go, and love seeing them at local pop ups throughout the year such as Odd Bird Fair. The coffee is impressive and delicious albeit slightly pricy, but milk alternatives are free so maybe it's included in the price. Love Balay and always try to get their drinks while I can! I've had simple vanilla lattes there and it's delicious, and they create awesome unique flavours too, such as a Patis Karamel coffee drink which has honey and Southeast Asian flavours. Definitely unique cafe we have in Edmonton! Only downside of their location at the Hub is that the seating is kinda uncomfortable and small even for a short person like me.
