A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Locarno Located in the heart of Locarno, Ravelli is the kind of place you could easily walk past, mistaking it for just another café along the Piazza Grande. But it is at this point I urge you to stop and take a closer look. Ravelli has been family owned and operated since 1913. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time, the stunning Art Deco interior and the warmth of the walnut paneling greet you immediately, and the space itself has an almost cinematic glow, inviting you to linger. From Australia to Switzerland We first met Giorgio and Holly on the east coast of Australia while they were operating Cadeau (see photos) serving up relaxed, modern European food, it was well worth the one hour drive to dine there. Then one day they announced they were closing and moving to Switzerland, fast forward to today, and here in Locarno they have brought that same warmth and professionalism, taking over the reins from Giorgio’s grandmother. So on a recent trip back to Europe, we had to make the detour to Locarno and say hello, it was lovely to see the surprise on Holly’s face when we just rocked up and asked for a table! The Menu Having honed his craft at places like London’s Michelin starred, The Ledbury, Giorgio is an accomplished chef with a deep understanding of flavour, his food is just simply delicious. On our visit the menu consisted of small plates, where the ingredients spoke for themselves, drawing inspiration from local area and local producers. The Coffee And if its only a coffee you wanted, then its worth remembering Holly and Giorgio have brought the standard of coffee with them from Australia, so go ahead and grab yourself a Flat White.
