They only take cash! So have some on deck. The food was really good though! Everything was super fresh. We got there as soon as it opened so there wasn't really a wait for us and we got a nice table outside

I'm not sure what the hype is about but this place isn't as good as I had anticipated. I've had many clam chowders in my life and this was the most mediocre. Their fish and chips, cheesy garlic bread, and tuna melt was "OK". It's either people that come here are super hungry and there not really tasting the food but only here to fill up their stomach. Won't be back.

Got hungry after walking on the beach and spotted a line at both the seated indoor Barbara's Fishtrap and the adjoining Cash Only walk-up window service and thought the food must be pretty good, although it was 1 pm on a Saturday of a holiday weekend (July 3, 2021).  Was pleasantly surprised how quickly the two person staff was turning out orders.  My fiancee and I ordered both a cup and a bowl of Clam Chowder ($4.95 and $9.95), an order of clam strips ($8.25), and a fish of the day sandwich ($17.75).  I chose to have the broiled, not deep fried option of the sandwich.  Clam chower was definitely the highlight.  Only about 10 available casual seats nearby with a view of the harbor and mostly unused beach in front of the restaurant.  Was surprised to learn the indoor dining menu with waitstaff and table service was priced the same as grab and go.  (Why?!) Great taste, visible bits of clam, nice thickness (not too watery like some places serve), and served with the cute oyster crackers on the side.  The Clam strips were a good portion and served with both cocktail sauce and  and tartar sauce.  Some pieces were tiny (a lot more breading than clam) but when tasting them while still warm I thought they were pretty good and an OK side.  The fish of the day sandwich had a very large, very moist piece of cod served on a good sized soft bun.  Lettuce, tomatoe, rings of red onion and tartar sauce were on the side, so you could dress it as you wished.   Came with a smallish portion of hot but unsalted fries, and the fish while fresh didn't have any seasoning itself, so the bland tartar sauce and toppings were supposed to carry the day, but didn't.   I wished they had used even a TINY bit of seasoning on both the fish and the fries.  With tax it was a pretty pricey lunch ($48) for really good chowder but middling everything else.  Maybe the inside service has more seasonings on their plates.  :-)   I give kudos to the hard working two-man staff for speed of service, but only 3 stars for the entire meal, because it was just "good", not "great" or outstanding for the price.

Dear Brian,

I appreciate your review, I am sorry we did not completely satisfy your experience at the Barbara's Fishtrap.
I would like to thank you for mentioning the salt and pepper on fish and fries. They are supposed to salt and pepper the broiled fish, I appreciate your mentioning that yours was not.  As for fries we do not salt and pepper the fries because we have a lot of customers that can not have the salt but we do provide it at the tables and in take out bags.
We do not have table service, we merely keep them clean and ask if we can get people anything so they can remain seated and not have to get up.
As for the take out 3% take out amount, yes I should change it to "Paper Surcharge". With pricing going up on everything from fish to paper goods, the only price we raised was the crab, which is now $40.00 a lb. at cost.
We are waiting to revamp our menu till things stop going up and the economy settles.

Thank you,
Melodie Madsen
