One of the best restaurants in Brookline and Boston. I've been going regularly since it opened in 2012. Moderate costs for the excellent food. Hence a great value. A wide and changing menu.
This place was packed. We waited for table at the bar and had some really sweet cocktails. They managed to squeeze us (group of 6) into some ad hoc tables, but then when another table meant for 6 people opened up, moved us there. Everything we had was delicious - can't go wrong with anything there.
I'm not impressed by Barcelona and find them to be very overpriced and not authentic or very good. We ordered the scallops tapa. For $14.00 we got just three scallops that were over cooked and chewy. We would have overlooked the price had they at least been good. They charge $7.00 for a beef empanada which is mediocre at best. Empanadas are street food that never cost more than $2.00, even the ones with lobster filling. The croquetas are just okay and overpriced. The sauces are not good either. I think we got the patatas brava, which tasted like homefries and came with some sort of ketchup. The food is disappointing. Furthermore, their menu is totally regionalized, missing a slew of dishes required to make your restaurant authentically Spanish. Nothing authentic or good about "Barcelona" their food is what you would expect from a chain restaurant appealing to the American palate. Their name is very deceptive. If you want real Spanish food, look elsewhere. I gave them three stars, however, because I do like the bar area. I wouldn't order food here though.
