The best restaurant of my trip so far. The atmosphere is super cozy with an old man working hard being the chef and service. He takes his time making the food and the wait is all the worth while as the pastas and pizzas are incredibly good with so much passion and delicacy. Truly a memory for life and can’t recommend the place enough! Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Yes he has several vegeterian options and can accommodate to you diet restrictions.

Showa-era kissaten meets great Italian food! It’s a one-man operation so he may not be able to accommodate you, but if you can get in, the food is high quality and music and atmosphere is relaxing. Meal type: Lunch Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

During our short time in Karatsu we went twice to the Barrone and everyone in the family, two kids and two adults, loved it. Both pizza and pasta were delicious, and the restaurant with the authentic Italian look and the food made you feel as if you were in an Italian trattoria. Tip for foreigners as we didn’t see it in the English menue: On the second day we found out that you could order a big (medium) or a super big (large) portion of pasta (for a little surplus). My kids loved the super big portion. :-). And the owner was also lovely. Very good value and top place to go. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥1,000–2,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
