If you ever want to get away from the city, there's always Tagaytay (1-2 hour drive from Manila) to answer your "where to next question". Whenever a roadtrip down south to Tagaytay is mentioned, bulalo (beef stew) and coffee automatically comes to mind. But, a visit to Bawai's will change your Tagaytay itinerary forever. For starters, this hidden gem is the brainchild of a Filipino-Vietnamese couple, who want to share with the world their love for good vietnamese food, so they put up a restaurant and named it Bawai which means grandmother. When you plan to visit, be sure to call ahead and reserve a table because the place gets packed easily. Everything on the menu is a treat, but, my usual staple order is the fresh springrolls (Goi Cuon) as well as the Vietnamese hot coffee (Ca phe Sua Nong) and their tamarind prawn shrimps.
