I have waited 20 years to visit this pub, and I was not disappointed at all. Literally in the depths of the Devons hills, the Beer Engine sits right on the station at Newton St Cyres near Exeter. The pub itself brews its own ales and the brewery can be viewed from the downstairs bar if full production. They brew 14 different ales, and the weekly bar menu of choice can change, as on average, only half of their brew menu is available at one time. The food is divine. A good choice of dishes to choose from. I had their signatures scotch eggs starter and enjoyed every bite. The prawns are also exquisite and cooked to perfection. Just to add.... The sausages, pie and scotch eggs are all made with their own ales. We were lucky to meet and spend some time with the creator and owner of the Beer Engine, Will. A fantastic host, and one hell of an ale brewery. We actually tried 7 of their creations, and every single drink was full of taste, balanced and brewed to perfection. Definitely a pub to put on your must visit list. 10 out of 10 all round.
