what a lovely team and restaurant! the staff was very sweet and helpful, especially in translating the dishes to English, as our French is not the best. the food presentations were beautiful and delicious! we did wine pairings which were fun and on point. the somm was very thorough in explaining the wines and why he chose them. we also did the 4 course menu and they offered an option to add the cheese course which was wonderful because I was a little sad not to have cheese on the 4 course menu but knew 6 courses would be too much. For the last 15 years, every time I came from the US to Angers, I tried to have at least one meal at Belle Rive. Before a big fire burned everything down years ago, it was a nice setting but after that it was even far nicer, with a beautiful view on the river Maine (despite recent flooding!) Yet the food has always been really good and very well presented. Yesterday I had their foie gras and a pigeon, with a nice Saumur wine. I don’t know why they are not in the Michelin guide, because they are really better than some that are in the guide in Angers. But maybe they want to keep this place secret.
