Recently, a couple of my coworkers and I ventured out to try Bernstein’s Deli, and we were all blown away by the experience. The entire vibe of the place was fantastic—the cozy atmosphere, the warm service, and, of course, the incredible food. Even though the deli was absolutely slammed, which meant the service was a little slower than we would’ve liked, it was completely forgivable given how busy they were. The staff still managed to be friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. I ordered the classic Reuben with a small matzah ball soup. Let me tell you—the soup was phenomenal! Warm, comforting, and bursting with flavor. The Reuben didn’t disappoint either; it was everything you’d expect from a classic deli sandwich and then some. My coworkers were equally impressed with their meals and kept raving about how good everything was. I’m already planning to come back with my family. My wife was a little jealous when I told her about our outing, and I don’t blame her! Bernstein’s is definitely a spot worth sharing with loved ones. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out—you won’t regret it. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

Ordered 1/2 corned beef sandwich on rye with potato salad. Sandwich good. Potato salad was mostly inedible, had to leave over half uneaten since the majority was 2 very large hunks of potato with no dressing or flavour. Told serving waitress and waitress who removed finished plates, about it, with no response from them other than a sorry comment. At payment time, I asked the till person to remove that portion of the food order from the bill. Till person checked with both waitresses, and came back and said she would remove that charge. Bill total remained the same and when I questioned it, she said that they couldn't alter the bill amount since the potato salad was part of an order (and I guess, not the whole order?). My husband's chicken schnitzel in the Illegal Curve sandwich was tough and dry and like a reheated leftover. However he never complained about it. We also had an issue earlier this year when we were overcharged on all the items we had ordered. When I mentioned this at the till, I was told that the menus had been changed and we must have been given a menu that hadn't been updated yet. Continued to charge us the increased prices, instead of the prices shown in our menu. Pretty sketchy behaviour. We usually eat here several times a year, but after this we won't be going back. My boyfriend and I attempted to try Bernstein's Deli for the first time in March after finding them online in search of a good Reuben. To say that I was a little disappointed is an understatement when we excitedly arrived at the restaurant only to find that they had just closed early for the day. We later learned that they were short-staffed with employees isolating at home due to COVID-19. Fair enough. I'm glad to see a business being responsible and respecting the health of their customers and staff. Since then, I'd been eager to give them another chance the next time we were in Winnipeg. It's now May, and the Classic Reuben with a side of tangy coleslaw and two pickle spears was well worth the wait! The sandwich had a good amount of corned beef that was complemented by the hot mustard. I'd also recommend the Cheese Knishes; they were mildly sweet and served with strawberry compote and sour cream. Overall, Bernstein's was a delicious and comfortable dine-in experience. Their COVID safety precautions exceeded recommended protocols and were much appreciated; masks were strongly encouraged and staff were wearing them, plexiglass barriers separated the booths, and they required proof of vaccination when we were there (but are no longer doing so due to a downward trend in hospitalizations).
