My husband and I went to the place last weekend. I loved the ambiance and decor of the place. It was modern, contemporary and very inviting. The entree started with a low for me. The Tom yum soup had a little too much fish sauce for my taste. The mixed entree was ok-ish. We had ordered the spicy lamb for mains with coconut rice. That was amazing. Lovely fragrant lamb with perfectly cooked vegetables. The aroma of the lamb was rich and spicy as promised. Over all the evening was great. I would go there again but just not order the entree

Lunch for 8 people, well they felt the pressure as the service was a bit slow with several other tables to service as well. This is very much the definition of a small business, the owner slash chef slash sever tried his hardest to keep everything going, with only one other staff member also run off there feet. Supporting small businesses we where patient, and as long as your not on a set time line like a 45min break, the food was worth the wait. From delicious red curry and simple Thai pork the food was fresh and tasty. The fish special was amazing. Sorry for no photos after the wait we all just dug in. Everyone left with a smile and no complaints with the quality....hunger may have played a factor but 8 from 8 loving it is very rare, so they are doing something very right with the food. Very relaxed yes very, but if you have the time you won't be disappointed.

Straight from the get go, if you love Thai food and you love fish, then Betong (meaning bamboo, a district at the southern most point of Thailand) is a place you need to check out, pronto.
Surprisingly, in spite of its modern design and cosy layout, Betong was not packed to the rafters (well, not last night, anyway) but on the evidence of what we witnessed, put this down to a 'windy weather' one off...
Plumming for Pla Nung Manao (Lime Barramundi) was a tough call given there is a whole heap of other Fish options, including Barra with Spicy Sauce (Pia Rard Prik), Barra with Ginger (Pia Jean), Barra with Sweet 'n' Sour (Pia Peaw wan) or Barra with crunchy Garlic (Pia Tod Gratiam). Some are deep fried while others are steamed, and the crunchy Garlic option is mild for those who want to avoid anything too 'heated.'
The Lime Barra was, in itself, a 5 rating, beautifully presented and arriving in style on a sizzle cooker. The aroma was sweet, not suffering from any fishy scent, but rather, captivating you with its fresh Chilli, Lime juice and Garlic. Don't expect it to arrive like something from a fast food restaurant; but don't let that be a stumbling block, as it was more than worth the wait.
To eat this fish was a delight. Fresh, saltwater Barra at its best, to date its the nicest Barra I've eaten in Australia, which is high praise indeed.
In fact, the only way this could get any better would be, as the fish is generally $29.90, throw the Jasmine Rice in for a $30 combo rather than the extra $2.95 and then offer an add on charge if you want a bigger Rice portion or the Coconut Rice...
Portion size was comfortable for two, and by the time you've thrown a starter into the mix - such as the Papaya Salad (Som Tam) - you'll find it hard to wander into the neighbouring Max Brenner for desert...
The Som Tam is the most famous Thai Salad and was a very generous portion, good for three people. Its ingredients were Lime juice (a revelation if you've never used it in your cooking before), Green Papaya, fresh Chilli, Garlic, Tomato, dried Prawns and Peanuts. The one criticism here would be the Prawns were few in abundance and a wee bit small; albeit it was delicious.
Finally, the Steamed Dim Sum (traditional Thai Entree consisting of seasoning Chicken Mince and Coriander Root) was tasty with a nice accompanying sauce.
In closing, for around $55, excellent quality and strong value, and with a good value lunch menu, specials and a delivery service, Betong is a great advertisement for Thai food at its best.
