A hidden gem in Shelbourne! I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Beyond the Gate a few times already and it never disappoints. A truly elevated dining experience in a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere. The service is always very friendly and welcoming and you can tell the chef takes pride in every dish — using high quality, fresh ingredients paired with an impressive level of culinary skill. Can’t recommend this place enough! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: CA$100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you live in Shelburne, go to this restaurant. If you don't live in Shelburne, go to Shelburne - to this restaurant! We chose to meet friends from Thornbury there recently - we came from The Beaches/Toronto. SO glad we did, Chef Freddy made the whole experience fabulous. I had the lamb shanks, my husband the crab cakes & my friend the scallops. He even made us fries cooked in duck fat - yum! And of course creme brule for dessert. Small but great wine list. Definitely recommend Beyond the Gate - & as a previous reviewer has said, look for the gate, go down the hall & you will find yourself in a charming restaurant that could have been in France. GO!

We have friends in Barrie who we like to meet for lunch from time to time. We try to pick restaurants midway between our two home cities, and three weeks ago we picked Beyond the Gate Restaurant in Shelburne for our rendezvous. We were warmly greeted by Freddy the restaurant’s Chef upon our arrival. Over cups of great tasting coffee we the perused the chalk boards which displayed a huge range of delicious-sounding offerings. My wife chose the French onion soup which she pronounced delicious, while I chose the campagnarde crepes (bacon, cheese, mushroom, onion and potato), which were topped with a very tastey salad. It was strongly suggested that we save room for dessert, and we therefore chose to share dessert crepes - one with buttertart and the other with Nutella. Divine!Since the location of this restaurant isn’t obvious to those unfamiliar with Shelburne I have included a photograph of the entrance, and add that it is across Main St. W. from Service Ontario.We definitely will return. Most highly recommended.
