I liked this place - very nice beer selection, especially german brews you can't get elsewhere. But I saw the writing on the wall the first week they were in business. Little to no promotion, no real happy hour, and too high priced right off the bat to attract repeat visits. It's a little out if the way if you frequent the Mears Park area as there are many other stops before this one. So, give the cheap beer drinkers an option!! Same thing happened to Pullmans - food was over priced and no happy hour menu. It's a very basic requirement for a bar to survive in St. Paul - Happy hour food and drink. This is still a blue collar town after all. Handsome Hog wasn't successful until they figured that out either.
Was completely taken by surprise how good the Weiner Schnitzel was. Second only to my mom's, it was complimented nicely by the beer selection. My friend's got some kind of sausage thing that they weren't real fond of. I guess my only criticism is that I don't like red cabbage and that's what they served with the Weiner Schnitzel. Oh, the pretzels and mustard were really good.
