Small, clean hotel away from the noisy tourist streets. Great location next to a small football stadium and a local park. The rooms are clean, the people are friendly, and I really liked the Nordic walking poles available at reception - a nice touch!

Eco Hotel Milano — Decent stay, but a few things to know It's a decent place to stay and they are genuinely eco friendly, but there are a few things that annoyed me enough to mention. The key situation. They have a "safety" rule where you leave your room key at the front desk every time you leave. The problem is getting it back. There's no queue system, so other guests just walk up and cut in front of you, in our case, 3 people did this and the staff did nothing. You basically have to be aggressive just to get your own key back. It felt unwelcoming to foreigners as all the people who cut in front of us spoke Italian. When it was finally our turn, the receptionist seemed to pretend not to hear me say we were in the other building, third floor, red room. She asked for our name to look up our room, then told us harshly that next time we should say we're in the red room. When I told her I had said that, she just replied "sorry about that" in an annoyed tone. This happened at 18:00 or 6pm. The annoyed lady was a brunette with her hair in a bun. The next morning, I talked to the receptionist who had an older gentleman this time. When I asked what the process was to get our keys back, he said just come up to ask us and when I mentioned what happened last night, he just assured me it won’t happen again. When I was explaining the situation, it felt like he was trying to end the conversation. He didn't take any notes, didn't mention a formal complaints process, it just felt like nothing would actually be done about it. I didn't feel heard. It didn't happen again, but the situation also wasn't set up to happen again, every time after that, there was no queue for people to cut into. The damage was already done though. It happened the very first time we tried to get our key back, and it left an extremely bad first impression. The apartment building has an identity crisis. If you book a room without an elevator, you're in a separate building, but good luck knowing what it's actually called. On the booking and email it goes by multiple names: "without elevator," annex, and dependent building. Then when we arrived, the staff called it the apartments. It's the same THING, just a different name every time you encounter it. I wish the name was standardized so it would lead to less confusion. The apartment rooms are fine with a big toilet and have a small kitchen, but there are no pots or pans, so it's more of a decorative kitchen. It also felt like everything was paywalled, using the air conditioning and the washing machine both needed an extra charge. We saw a bug each night, which was 2 total. By that point, after the key situation and everything else, it felt pointless to even bring it up at the front desk. City tax is £9.50 per person per night for the apartments, so for 2 people that's £19 a night. Not hidden, but worth knowing before you book. The location. This one is on me. I should have looked at where it was exactly on the map. I blindly assumed the hotel was located in central Milan, within walking distance of the centre. But noooo, it was a 15-minute metro ride to actually get to the centre, and with that distance and the apartment city tax, we hit the daily transport limit (£10) every day. With these additional costs per night, I recommend picking a hotel actually in the centre to save on transport fees. The Wi-Fi. You have to make an account to connect, full name, phone number, and email. I saw a review on TripAdvisor saying that if you log in with Facebook it posts to your wall. We didn't use Facebook to log in, but it was enough to make me wary. Just be careful what you sign up with. We booked the Room type: Double room in annex building at the second/third floor without elevator (2 Adults) Overall a good place to stay, but don’t rely on the front desk to be welcoming, problem solving, or even helpful.

Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your feedback. We would like to address the points you raised to provide our perspective on what happened. - Check-in and Waiting Time. We sincerely apologize if some Italian guests were served before you; it was completely unintentional. Our receptionist had actually finished her shift, but she chose to step back in specifically to help manage the queue, as guest care is our top priority.- Room Identification. Regarding the "Red Room" misunderstanding: our staff only asked for your reservation name because the specific room details weren't immediately clear. The suggestion to mention the room name next time was intended only to speed up the process for you. We use the official names listed on your booking (e.g., "Double Room in Annex Building") and would never use terms like "no elevator" or "annex" to identify them. Our colleague remembers a positive interaction with smiles and thanks, so we are truly sorry to hear you were feeling uncomfortable.- Internal Communication. The following day, our senior receptionist (with over 20 years of experience) did not ignore your feedback. While he didn’t take physical notes in front of you, he logged your concerns immediately into our internal digital communication system to alert the entire team.- Amenities and Pricing. Regarding the extra costs, the washing machine and kitchenware kit are subject to fees which are clearly stated in our room information; however, air conditioning is always included. Regarding our location, the price difference compared to central hotels is significantly more than €10 per day. Most of our guests choose the Affori area specifically for its tranquility and the 15-minute metro connection to the center, representing excellent value for money.- Privacy and Service. The request for an email/phone number for Wi-Fi is a standard procedure that helps us stay in touch. It allows us to send our "Quick Review" to catch any issues during the stay. We are sorry this was perceived as a burden rather than a service. Hospitality is our passion and we are saddened that we failed to meet your expectations this time. We have hundreds of reviews praising our staff and we hope you might give us a second chance to show you our true level of service. Best regards, EcoStaff
