There was a hair in my house salad. The sushi tasted pretty decent, but I’ve had better. For my party of 4, we were also automatically charged an 18% tip - which to me is tacky. (I also wonder if this is done for every customer, or only done for those of a certain demographic, if you know what I mean) We are not a large party. Therefore, it should be up to the customer about how much to tip. I always tip and tip well. But being forced to tip a certain amount (especially for service that wasn’t even exceptional) isn’t really best practice — especially if it’s not communicated beforehand. My dining experience tonight was absolutely amazing. There was a small hiccup with the hostess at the door, but Joseph came in and made up for anything that might’ve been lost in translation. His service alone will keep me coming back to Birmingham sushi cafe! He was very attentive and took his time with my party. The sushi was vibrant, the appetizers were delectable and the garlic fries were TO DIE FOR!! The cherry on top was the owner coming around to ask us how the food and service were. A true gem in the heart of Birmingham, I would not recommend them enough, and ask for Joseph yourself, he is like a friend to all. Absolutely will be coming back again when I want good food to eat, it is definitely worth the small drive out to Birmingham.
