Quite impressed with this place. Had one superb cod and chips and one good one. Superb = perfectly cooked fish, crispy not-too-thick batter and chips with a bit of a tan. Consistency for is always the hardest thing, so one superb and one good is pretty good going - looking forward to the next one! Our second time using Bishopston Fish Bar. Our first experience had been good so when we had a family get together we decided to use again. However following our experience of the owner trying to scam us out of money we will not be returning again and I will be telling people to avoid this chip shop. Our online order did not go through properly so we were left waiting far longer. I then got a call saying I had not paid when I had bank evidence of payment. When I explained to the owner that I had screen shot this evidence and if the payment did not go through by Monday I would happily return to pay he was rude, but unsurprisingly having spoke to my bank it was the chip shop's fault and the money came out pretty quickly when I cottoned on to the scam of charging me twice. We are younger people and therefore use online banking, can easily access our banks for more information and defend ourselves but I do worry for the older generation who may not be so wise to this. The food is not the best. We usually use another fish and chip shop which is better quality, wonderful service, better value for money. Bishopston Fish Bar is most definitely not worth the press (then again it was the Bristol Post who gave a 'glowing' review, which says everything people need to know).
