Being a born and raised Miami Cuban girl, its been hard to find good cuban good past county line... hell, even past Hialeah. The Black Beans Cafe is one of my top places to go to when I need a quick fix. The portions are hearty, service is nice, and the food is tasty! Most recently, ordered 2 lunch specials for pick up. The bistec de pollo (boneless chicken breast) came with rice, beans, and fried sweet plantains for about 7 bucks! It was delish. The other dish ordered was the carne con papa (beef and potatos), also with the same sides and same price. The beef was a little chewy, it could have been more tender. But the taste was good. My only complaint is the beans themselves.... I've tried both the black and red beans and I can't say I'm a big fan. I can't pinpoint the issue if there is too much of something, too little of something but it isnt just right. I'm hard to please, lol! Dont let that deter you, the black beans are better and will complement your meal. As for me, I'm super happy with my chicken and rice! I'll definitely be back. Dont forget to have some of the toasted and buttered cuban bread they bring as a starter!
