Pleasant Vietnamese comfort food with relaxing ambiance. I enjoyed their shrimp spring rolls and chicken pho with added veggies.

Disgusting. Chicken pho - The broth is very murky and tastes more like a chicken stock than a pho broth. The cilantro, green onion, and white onion were also missing. Those 3 ingredients are very basic staples of pho. I added veggies for $4 extra, which seemed steep, but I am currently sick and thought the extra vitamins would be good. They were not fully cooked and there were bell peppers which seemed like an odd choice. Other veggies included were a few carrot slices, Bok choy, and string beans. A random hard boiled egg was also included. Worst pho I've ever had. "Fresh" Shrimp Spring Rolls - Not fresh, at all. My first bite was without peanut sauce. The flavors were very unbalanced. It tasted stale almost. I didn't like it, but also didn't want to waste $40, so I opened up the roll and ate a piece of shrimp. As I was chewing the taste seemed off. At that time I noticed the other shrimp looked weird, like it had been dried out on an edge. I smelled it and it was terrible. After swallowing the shrimp bite I had a nasty shrimp taste in my mouth that I had to chase with the over salted "pho" broth aka chicken stock. I didn't even eat half my meal. What a bummer. Based on other reviews it seems like this business historically skimps. Never eating here again and wouldn't be surprised if there were other one star reviews to follow mine.

We started coming here when it was located in an old house on 65th St. and was called "Pho 65". When they tore that building down about 10 years ago, the restaurant moved one block south and hipsterized its ambience. We couldn't believe it when, a few years later, they opened Bol Test Kitchen right back where Pho 65 used to be, opening the door for massive confusion ("Are we meeting at the old Bol or the new Bol?" "I don't know, it's the one next to Portage Bay Cafe." "So the one on 65th?" "I don't know!!!"). Since then, it seems to me that neither restaurant has fared well, as though the new Bol sucked the life out of the old Bol. Also, the old Bol no longer has table service. Why do we keep coming here? We actually like An Nahm Pho, just around the corner, better. But on a sunny day, Bol Pho Bistro is more cheerful and you can eat out on the sidewalk if you want. Also, I really enjoy that Bol Pho Bistro has a simpler menu and every price is in even dollars.
