THE best sourdough bread in the city, if not the USA. You can’t get enough of it. And the baguettes and the cranberry walnuts. And all the croissants and pastries. Well - So it’s everything. And always with a huge smile from Emily. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Baguette, Wheat and Rye Sourdough, Kouign Amann, Pain Au Chocolate, Cookies, Golden Croissant

I had high hopes for this place based on all the hype but the cranberry walnut loaf was $13 of disappointment. It was dry, dense, and tasted burnt. I know it’s baked with a “dark crust” but the charred bits of crust add a really unpleasant, bitter taste. We were surprised how poor the service was. The employee who came to the door seemed annoyed that we showed up and didn’t really want to answer our questions (such as when they typically sell out and what other kinds of bread they have normally). I would like to give this another try, especially if I can snag some of the famous sourdough before it sells out for the day. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: $10–20

Bread Alley is a handy bakery for picking up fresh bread and a pastry or two. I went in during the morning and tried a savory pastry along with one of their breads. The pastry had a flaky exterior and a good amount of filling, while the bread had a crisp crust and soft center. The selection was varied enough to find something for breakfast or to take home.
