St. Augustine Catholic Church is what you should see after having a meal at CHAR'D. Have nicely cooked juicy burgers, chicken wraps and roasted duck at this restaurant when you happen to be near it. Good banana pudding is the tastiest dish. It's time to degustate delicious vanilla milkshakes, strawberry milkshakes or lemonade.

Great burgers and chicken tenders. I've been twice so far, ordering the same things for comparison (about a month apart), and gotten the lettuce-wrapped double cheeseburger w/ seasoned fries, as well as the 3-pc crispy chicken tenders and a vanilla milkshake. The burger:. The lettuce wrap/bun is always hard to get right, since the nature of the water in lettuce can easily make the burger slip and slide everywhere, making eating one somewhat of a messy experience. Char'd made theirs pretty well, all considered, carefully wrapping their burgers as best as is practical. The burger itself is juicy, balanced, and very satisfying. Great layers of veggies and patties makes each bite delicious. 5/5 stars The chicken tenders:. The white meat chicken tenders are juicy and fantastic. The breading is crispy all around and has a delightful texture as you bite into it. I do wish there were some options to make the tenders a bit spicier, as Char'd's version of chicken tenders have no kick whatsoever. However, I understand this is just personal preference. I also noticed that, once you get to around the middle of the tender (if eating by hand), the chicken itself tends to slip out of the breaded outer layer, which suggests its coating isn't as sticky as it could be. Regardless, the overall taste and texture are still fantastic. (*Also, I have to respect the care taken into preventing sogginess if ordering takeout, as I did: they leave the box of tenders/fries uncovered in the bag, so as to keep things crispy. You can certainly ask for a cover, but I was told they want to make sure the food "stays crispy", which is totally true. Cover your takeout food and, by the time you get to your destination, they end up soggy, don't you agree?) 4.5/5 stars The fries:. Cooked in duck fat. Not as crispy of an outer edge as I prefer, but still very tasty. No complaints. Char'd fries are cooked well and are consistently cut and seasoned from fry to fry, bite to bite. 4.5/5 stars The milkshake:. Thick and creamy. Sooo delicious. Zero complaints. Tastes like real dairy and milk. 5/5 stars Atmosphere:. Feels clean, generally. Easy layout. Two kiosks to order from near the front counter. Several dining tables inside and a patio area out front, as well. They have gender-neutral bathrooms , and are in a very LGBTQIA+ friendly and welcoming neighborhood. Lots of other PoCs and younger, hip-looking people around. It's a good place to feel comfortable to dine in. Parking can be tough. Mostly neighborhood residential parking (DC zone 1 and 2 or green 2-hr signs) and paid street parking along 14th St NW. The U St metro (green/yellow lines) are, however, about 2-3 blocks away. Not hard to get to if taking public transit. Final thoughts:. Overall, Char'd is very yummy. They have a great menu and are in a nice area between U St and the Logan Circle neighborhoods. Everything can be a bit pricey, but things are expensive, both in the area and in these times. Char'd uses good ingredients and they care for the quality of their food, so I think you get what you pay for. I'd be happy to go again. 4.6/5 stars. Order type: Takeaway Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–50 Dietary restrictions: They have lettuce-wrapped burgers. Parking space: Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options: Paid parking lot, Free of charge street parking, Paid street parking Parking: U St/Cardozo metro (green/yellow lines) is about 2-3 blocks away, if taking public transit. Residential parking is DC Zones 1 and/or 2, and some green 2-hr streets. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly.
