It’s every bit as good as the other 5 star reviews say it is. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here (table of 6) and everything was faultless. Food was delicious - highlights were oysters, eggplant, steak and affogato, but don’t miss the tinned seafood either. Portion sizes were just right for sharing. Cocktails were creative, and there was an element of fun selecting wine from the range on offer. Our waiter Luca provided excellent service - prompt, friendly and knowledgeable, without being pretentious. I expect it will be hard to get weekend bookings here soon - they’re doing everything right. My partner and I visited Coda over the weekend, and it was genuinely one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Having recently relocated to the suburbs after spending years living closer to the city, it's taken us a while to find a local restaurant and wine bar that compares to what we were used to. Coda is exactly what we'd been hoping to find. Whenever I visit a restaurant for the first time, I like to sit at the bar. I find it's the best way to get a real feel for a venue; you get to watch the team in action, chat with the staff, ask questions, get recommendations and really experience the hospitality. From the moment we arrived, everyone was warm, knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about what they do. As an oyster lover, I was thrilled to see Appellation oysters on the menu. If you know oysters, you'll know Appellation is renowned for sourcing some of Australia's best produce, so seeing them on the menu was an excellent sign, and they absolutely delivered. Being a wine bar, the wine experience is something really special. You can order from the list as normal, or you're given a card to explore the self-serve wine stations, allowing you to wander between whites, reds, rosés, sparkling wines and everything in between. You can choose a tasting pour, half glass or full glass, making it such a fun way to discover something new. The sommelier and bar team were always nearby to answer questions, recommend wines based on what we enjoyed, and even suggest the best glassware to bring out each wine's character. It felt approachable, interactive and genuinely enjoyable rather than intimidating. My standout of the evening was the Domaine Pichot Coteau de la Biche, which I'll definitely be trying to track down again. We shared a selection of dishes, including the meatballs and mozzarella, and everything was excellent. The menu is interesting and thoughtfully curated, with enough variety that there's something for everyone while still feeling considered. We left with a list of dishes we already want to come back and try. The venue itself also deserves a mention. It's the perfect size—intimate enough to feel welcoming without ever feeling cramped. Knowing it transforms from a café during the day into a wine bar at night gives it a really unique feel, and it's exactly the sort of place you could happily lose a few hours in. During the evening we also got chatting with a couple of locals who mentioned they'd been waiting years for somewhere like this to open in the area. It was reassuring to hear that the feeling wasn't just ours. As people who genuinely love food, we've been lucky enough to experience some incredible restaurants over the years, and Coda genuinely gives many of Brisbane's best a run for their money. For a venue that's only been open for around six months, it's already operating at a level that many long-established restaurants would be proud of. The quality of the food, wine, service and atmosphere all exceeded our expectations. Thank you to everyone at Coda for such a memorable evening—and for putting up with us as we enthusiastically explored the wine selection! We left incredibly happy to have finally found a local that ticks every box. We'll absolutely be back, and I'll be recommending Coda to everyone I know.
