We visited Cafe in the Orchard yesterday lunchtime Friday 19/04. Really good menu, great service by friendly and engaging people. Prices fair for the high quality, good value in fact considering portion sizes, local suppliers and freshness of ingredients. I would highly recommend the Cafe in the Orchard for food and drinks, really well organised and run by focussed people. However, there is a major negative, the atmosphere that could be really pleasant in a countryside setting is RUINED by some parents who allow their feral kids to run in and out of the cafe leaving the sliding door open and getting in the way of customers. The parents of these kids show NO interest in controlling them or supervising them at all, whilst chatting away oblivious to other customers concerns letting the kids run amok. This is in spite of a clear policy notice that states ALL children must be accompanied and supervised at all times. The cafe is not a playground, if this problem were firmly tackled many more people would no doubt be happy customers. Perhaps the parents who allow this behaviour should just be asked to leave? and take their noisy feral kids with them. I dread to think what school holidays would be like! A nice local cafe in Radlett at Battlers Green banned children from inside the building due to this same problem of noisy roaming kids and complaints from customers. Additionally, there is far too much echo noise in the cafe this is just from normal customers conversations, the problem appears to be from the roof space acting as an amplifier for sounds. A possible fix would be to install sound deadening pads up into the roof void in between the roof skylights, not sure how that would be designed but a sound reduction specialist would no doubt work out what is best, some softer furnishings would also help absorb noises. The combination of noisy feral kids and echo noise from normal happy customers chatting is enough to put many people off what is otherwise a great venue. I hope that this positive criticism will be taken in the spirit intended and perhaps changes to fix the issues will be made. The few with wrong attitudes to behaviour should never spoil things for the many. PS That sliding door to the outside maybe should be automated so that it shuts after kids leave it open and allows people carrying trays or less able people to exit and enter that way safely, quickly and with dignity.
