We had such a lovely afternoon here! The cakes were absolutely delicious and so thoughtfully made. One of our favorites had local pecans glazed with caramel on top, and it honestly tasted incredible — rich, fresh, and perfectly balanced. A huge thank you to Leah for making the experience even more special. She was so warm, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Her kindness and positive energy truly stood out and made us feel right at home. We’re visiting from Vancouver and this place ended up being one of the highlights of our Seattle trip. If we come back to Seattle again, we’ll definitely return — and hopefully see Leah again too! Thank you for such a memorable experience Meal type: Other Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Absolutely INCREDIBLE. I had been eyeing Cafe Lolo ever since they first opened their doors in the beautiful historic building on Roy, and I finally got a chance to poke my head inside for a friend's birthday dinner. It was everything I had hoped for and more, with the most comforting and cozy ambiance (enhanced by the historical building and murals), warm and friendly staff, and delicious food. We had the honor of being served by Leah, one of the three co-founders, and it was such a treat. She (and everyone else on the team) was super friendly and excited to answer all our questions about the menu and what goes into running such a phenomenal eatery. And the food was genuinely jaw-dropping. Every item highlighted fresh, local, seasonal produce in a really fun and unique way. We started with the asparagus and seared spring onions, which was super refreshing. It was served slightly cold, as if the asparagus had been blanched super quickly and then dunked in an ice bath, so it was the perfect first bite after a hot(ish...for Seattle) and sunny day outside. It was very lightly cooked so the asparagus still had a good crisp and crunch to it, and the spring onions offered a great punch of flavor. It was also topped with a bit of sunflower seed hummus (delicious and nutty), preserved lemon (a nice pop of acid and fruitiness, with just a slight hint of funk), and dukkah (great crunch and herby-ness), which all came together to create a really well-balanced dish across temperature, texture, and flavor. Our next dish was the baby bok choy and mushrooms, which was equally delicious. The bok choy was perfectly cooked, maintaining the right amount of crunch and vibrant green color, while still having a good, wilted leafy bit. The mushrooms were perfectly seared and had a wonderful umami flavor, and I loved how the fresh, crisp veggies contrasted against the warmly spiced, soft curried lentils on the bottom. The pickled ramps gave a nice pop of acidity, and the sunchoke chips another nice crunchy texture. We diverged a bit on our mains. She got the only meat-forward dish on the menu, the orecchiette with beef ragu, while I opted for the more veggie-centric fiorentini with green garlic and nettle pesto. It was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. First of all, fiorentini is just such a fun shape and it's perfect for picking up all the little bits of sauce and flavor. You could absolutely tell that it was freshly made and it was cooked to a perfect al dente. The pesto was deliciously herby and nutty, and it paired wonderfully with the leeks (which were cooked down to almost a paste and offered such a great pop of flavor) and potatoes. The pickled fiddlehead ferns were a fun surprise, but they provided such a wonderful hit of acidity and freshness against an otherwise pretty heavy pasta dish. Even though we were absolutely stuffed from our veggies and mains, we couldn't end the meal without taking a look at the dessert menu. We decided to get their cornmeal custard and wheat cake, and Cafe Lolo very kindly added on the rye and brownie ice cream to celebrate my friend's birthday. Every single dessert was incredible, with the perfect balance of textures and flavors -- none were overly sweet, and each had a mix of crunchy and soft textures. Each dish also highlighted a whole grain and vegetable, so it felt just _slightly_ healthier to sample the entire dessert menu. The ice cream was a hit, and the crunch from the candied hazelnut and slight bitterness from the coffee sauce took the scoop to the next level. The custard was smooth and creamy, and it contrasted beautifully against the sweet and sour poached rhubarb and crunchy oat cookie. The wheat cake had creaminess from the parsnip whip, saltiness from the caramel, and texture from the parsnip chips. The cake itself was quite dense, so I'd recommend this one if you want a more substantive dessert. All in all, outstanding! I can't wait to come back to try the next season's menu or check out their brunch / lunch! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $70–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection Vegetarian options: Almost every item when I went is vegetarian or veggie-forward, although the menu is constantly shifting so it's hard to guarantee a certain number of veg options.
