I’ve been hearing my parents talk about this new-to-them eating place for several weeks now. They took us with them tonight and it exceeded expectations! Between the 5 of us, we had…gumbo, chargrilled oysters, fried oysters, fried shrimp, fried crab claws, fried catfish, boiled shrimp, potatoes, corn, slaw and hush puppies. Everything seemed fresh and was seasoned to perfection. The oysters were the highlight in my opinion - the grilled ones are just amazing and the fried were sizable (not bohemoth, but not tiny…just right to me) and not over-cooked like so many places tend to do. The boiled shrimp were excellent, especially with requested butter for dipping. The catfish is served in long, skinny strips that are super tasty. The potatoes were plastic fork-tender and tasted buttery thoughout. Slaw was also great. Hush puppies could use some work, but I’ve had worse. The restaurant looks to have been converted from an old house. Nothing fancy, but doesn’t need to be. The menu and flavorings are very authentic Cajun. I hope to go back and try even more of their offerings such as boudin balls, fried gator, beignets, bread pudding etc. Service was prompt and friendly and the prices are reasonable. If I had only ONE suggestion to make, it would be to ditch the styrofoam plates and plastic forks. At a restaurant where people are spending $20-$30 per head, real plates and silverware is expected (plus, I couldn’t dig all that cheesy goodness out of the grilled oysters with the flimsy, plastic forks! ) But if you’re looking for some really tasty Cajun cooking, the Cajun Connection is a great place for it!
