My office used to be a five minute walk from this location. I was a little skeptical at first but I had been craving a burrito coming from Arizona. Knowing this wouldn't be an authentic street food style Mexican cart burrito, I placed my expectations closer to a Chipotle. And basically if a bunch of Chinese So-cal surfing ninjas wanted to leave Venice Beach and start up a chain in Hong Kong selling burritos, this would be the place to get the spicy burrito fix for a global appetite. In the end, I ended up eating here at least twice a week for a year. Best ever fast food burrito chain in Central area.
Although it looks like fast food and smells like fast food, I do kind of love it! This place is a guilty pleasure for me. Being from the actual Southwest and the "land of burrito" origination, I feel in good faith that for what you find in the realm of "Mexican" fast food here in Hong Kong, Cal-Mex is pretty good. It is the "breakfast burrito" that is available all day where I am hooked. Eggs, sauteed spinach, some veggies, salsa. Kind of a giant portion, but not greasy or heavy. I eat pretty clean when I can, but do miss true southwest cuisine. Cali-Mex is kind of a way to merge the two here for me in HK...a little bit. The staff is friendly, quick and the buffet of ingredients they dump into your burrito always looks clean, organized and fully stocked.
