We are visitors; we originally intended to go to the Central Cafeteria, but since it doesn't open to non-students until after 1:00 PM, we ended up coming here for lunch instead. We seem to have walked in just minutes before morning classes let out; we were incredibly lucky to snag the very last empty table—no sooner had we sat down than a line of seven or eight people formed at the entrance. The food wasn't anything extraordinary—it was Western-style cuisine—and while the prices were certainly higher than at the Central Cafeteria, they were comparable to those of a standard restaurant. From our seats inside, we had a view of the university's magnificent old tree—a highlight that was even more impressive than the food itself. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Visit : meeting doctor/professor at Kyoto university for research and catch up was suggested this location and we used on 2 consecutive days for late lunch (after the main traffic 11:30-1).Not quite sure on the reviewers below and their 5 star ratings - it seems on google maps people just either put 5 or 1 star - really not much thought goes into it - i certainly wouldn't describe this as excellent food or wonderful service etc etc ..... the best way to describe this place is being a little better than a canteen with worn furniture / fixtures and fittings. The service is rather drull and the food is mediocre at best. The thai curry (and/or some form of bland curry) which i had on one day was virtually devoid of meat and sauce and had almost rubberised salad with it - i don't even think i can call it 'value for money' either as if i compared spending 1,300 inc drink to central Tokyo i can get a better quality set lunch in all number of places including, for example, a 8 piece sushi set in decently decorated restaurant in b1f of the 'Kitte biru' in Otemachi ( now figure that is prime real estate / high rent ) - so in a sense Camphora is quite poorI believe on the second day i chose a beef dish and my friend had a pasta .... her reply to me was that within the area the choice is quite limited and it is either this or a students buffet type location or one of the smaller places near to demachiyenagi station ( which if i had known i would have said we should go )Notes : I would not recommend anyone from outside the university heading there to eat and if you are meeting anyone from / at the university suggest to them to walk 7-10 mins and head to somewhere that serves a decent set lunch at pretty much the equivalent pricesAnd as for those comments and reviews below i personally think they have such low standards and/or really do not consider the 'quality of food' important ........ each to their own i suppose though i visit all number of restaurants of types and this place really isn't good
