If you want to remember Rideau Canal - Jones Falls Defensible Lockmasters House, come to this restaurant first. Italian food is worth a try here. But google users haven't given Canal Ritz a high rating.

Report incorrect information
We were seated immediately at a table right by the canal. Part of the idiosyncratic nature of this particular seating is that the brickwork tilts towards the canal, giving one the impression that he is about to slide off the decking into the briny deep. But more charming than annoying.
My pizza was good - an interesting combination of pear, cheese, onion, and cinnamon. Also I loved the wine: Middle Earth Sauvignon Blanc, a fine New Zealand offering.
My dining companion, however, fared less happily: his appletini looked wonderful and was very tasty, but the glass was dirty. We had to send his knife back; it too was dirty. His salad arrived with a hair on the lip of the plate. I frankly would have sent it back, but he graciously allowed the server to remove it and ate it. However, there was mold on a slice of cucumber, and the bottom of the salad looked unhappy as if they'd put yesterday's greens on the bottom and added fresh greens on top.
All of these issues we pointed out to our server, who was very apologetic, and offered a free dessert as compensation. It wasn't very good.
We should have read other reviews before we went. Mine is a variation on so many others. Beautiful setting wasted on an inferior product. The Canal deserves better. Ritzy it ain't.
