A devastating loss of character and aesthetic under new management, as well as overall quality drop. As a longtime regular, I am deeply disappointed by how completely this cafe has lost its charm under its new provider. It has traded its unique identity as a modern museum’s ancillary cafe for generic, uncomfortable, and unsustainable practices. The physical space has been entirely stripped of its atmosphere. The green window plants that once cast beautiful, artistic shadows are gone, replaced by a uncomfortable, difficult-to-clean upholstery long couch crammed against the glass. Without plant shade, sitting here in the heat of the sun causes physical discomfort to your neck and back. (What you're seeing from the photo is now gone.) Furthermore, the gorgeous, diverse seating provided by the long timber table has been removed. The service choices are equally baffling and regressive. Serving coffee in difficult-to-clean mason jars and placing random, old-school salt and pepper sets on every table completely kills the modern art gallery vibe. Worse, they now serve tap water in single-use plastic cups - a violation of the institution’s own written sustainability pledge. Even the curated, amazing music playlist has been replaced by uninspiring pop music. Finally, removing the protective glass covers from the pastries raises serious hygiene concerns. The cafe no longer reflects the high standards or impression of the institution. I highly question why the museum allows a vendor to disconnect so entirely from its core values. A lovely place to sit outdoors with a coffee when the sun is shining. Unfortunately the service today was rather uninterested. Maybe reply to your WhatsApp conversation after dealing with the line of customers waiting for you? I didn't see prices before I ordered, so I was a bit shocked by £4.40 for an oat flat white, but I guess it's in the postcode of what to expect these days. A pleasant café within the Camden Art Centre with seating inside and outside in the garden. There were three types of salad available when we went - a large portion of the bean and fennel salad was good for both of us, followed by a slice of excellent cake.
