Live in Yorkshire and kept hearing about this place amongst fellow Americans looking for a fix. As an Ohioan whose sausage gravy and biscuits was from her local Amish community, I am glad to say that this hit the spot! Good tasty biscuits, yummy black pepper gravy. We also had the Hot Honey chicken sandwich, not too hot- would have liked a little more heat but I'm not angry because I was truly just focused on the biscuit. My husband was pleased and his advice for fellow Brits "Give it a go, think of it as a mule- it's like a mix between and scone and a dumpling" Since the kitchen is hosted by the Monk Refectory bar it can be a bit confusing to find and place an order if you don't have this information. We came on a chill Sunday so everything was pretty quick and not too rowdy- don't know how a weekday may be.

I came on the recommendation of many people. The menu is small and concise. It is a pop up kitchen in a bar which is very popular and has good varied options of different beers and drinks. I had one of the hot honey sandwich to me the concept didn’t work as well as I was hoping it would. The piece of chicken inside was small, thin it was juicy but it was not that crispy the biscuits around it are crispy soft and good for a biscuit but together the whole thing was a bit under the seasoned and the texture of the biscuit was very similar to the texture of the chicken so it just meant that it didn’t quite work. The other thing is the biscuit is extremely oily and buttery. The sauce inside was not enough to create a good strong flavour - the flavour is very monotonous. Overall I felt like it was a bit overhyped as a concept. The service was excellent. There are many seats inside and outside even if it’s busy you can just order and once you get a table, tell them your table number and they accommodated me well. I would say this type of food only has a place after several drinks or when you’re very hung over. Meal type: Lunch Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

3.5/5 Cardinal rule serves hearty food that will leave your stomach bulging. I had the Hot Take with the Cajun fries but you can eat the burger on its own a be pretty full so beware. The biscuits were very rich and buttery, as they were so thick it was hard to get a full bite of the burger. The chicken itself was crispy but I was missing the kick of spice I was looking for. The richness of the biscuit and the saltiness of the chicken needed something to cut the flavour and unfortunately the pickles weren’t doing this enough for me. A decent meal but can’t see myself trying this again any time soon. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
