My friend and I visited Carnival at random just looking for our first experience of the culture around izakayas. We were incredibly lucky on the first try to have selected it. The food was good, the atmosphere was excellent (we especially loved the City Pop), but most of all the every person on staff from chefs to waiters were awesome. They put up with some awful Japanese and awkwardness while we were still figuring things out. Over the span of a few weeks while in Sendai we visited four times. There were a lot of fun interactions and laughs with them in spite of the language barrier. Don't be afraid to check it out and be friendly towards the staff if you have a very basic knowledge of Japanese. They are great people.
