Don't be put off by the location and street appearance, if you want excellent food & a chilled atmosphere, this is the place for you. The owners host & cook & everything is cooked fresh to order. There's a lovely balcony area at the back with a great view down to the sea & and inside bar/restaurant if the weather's not so. Can't rate this place highly enough; just wish we'd found it a bit earlier in our holiday; always next time though. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €25–30

Really nice thinly sliced meat but the spicy sauce which was brought to the table was a great edition. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €30–35

We have just returned home to Canada, after spending a month in beautiful Portugal, including 3 weeks staying at Cerro Mar. Luckily we discovered Joseph’s Bar early on, and found they served excellent home cooked meals in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable and Joseph and his wife and sister were always friendly and welcoming. It was such a treat not to have to go down those 99 steps for a restaurant. Everything we had was very good but in particular we enjoyed their octopus salad, the best we had in Portugal. We also enjoyed many fish meals, such as sea bass and they were excellent. To end the meal Joseph always brought us his almond liqueur. A very nice touch!
