The establishment boasts a warm and cozy ambiance with elegant decor that transports diners to a bygone era. The interior design features wooden ceilings and warm tones that create a welcoming and intimate atmosphere.
The price range at Champany Inn is on the higher side, but the quality of the food and service more than justifies the cost. The menu offers an extensive wine selection, including their own label wines, as well as some half bottles. For cocktails, the Champany's own label bubbly is a must-try.
One of the standout dishes on the menu is the 10oz fillet, which has been hailed by many as one of the best steaks they've ever had. Other popular dishes include the T-bone steak, ribeye steak, and burgers. Vegetarian options are also available, including vegan options.
In addition to the restaurant, Champany Inn also offers bed and breakfast accommodations, as well as a wine shop where visitors can purchase their own label wines. The establishment is situated 20 minutes north of Edinburgh and features outdoor seating for those who prefer al fresco dining.
Overall, Champany Inn is a must-visit for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. From the impeccable service to the outstanding food and wine selection, this place has it all.

I last visited the Champany 40 years ago as a treat from my parents for doing well in school exams. On a recent trip back to Scotland I took the opportunity to stay there with my wife and introduce her to one of my late father’s favourite restaurants. I’m delighted to report that it’s just as good and still run by the same family. It’s refreshing to see in a homogenised world somewhere consistently doing the right thing without the need to follow fashion. Food was of course excellent and the staff were delightful. I hope to visit again a lot sooner than 40 years!

Great quality customer service and outwardly a pleasant looking establishment. On a hiking trip we stopped off for some water which was kindly provided. After a friendly chat about our hike, staff member Eric unprompted generously offered a lift to our next waypoint in order for us to avoid potentially dangerous country roads and saved us a good chunk of time. Would throughly recommend a visit and stay for the customer service alone.

I stayed at Champany Inn for my final night in Scotland. The hotel itself is old-fashioned and a little quirky, but reasonably priced, particularly during Fringe season, and conveniently located for getting to Edinburgh Airport. Unfortunately, dinner was a real disappointment, especially given Champany’s reputation for steak. As a solo diner, I was surprised that the bone-in ribeye had a minimum weight of 450g. I asked whether they could cut a smaller ribeye, but they weren’t willing to, although they could offer a smaller sirloin. I wanted ribeye, so I went ahead with the 450g portion. The size ultimately wasn’t the main problem — the steak itself was. It was cooked appropriately and had a decent char, but the cut was underwhelming for a ribeye, with relatively little of the marbling and rich fattiness I expect from that cut. The beef itself was surprisingly lacking in flavor and needed additional salt at the table. Even the peppercorn sauce was bland; the spicy mustard was ultimately the only accompaniment that gave the steak much flavor. I have no issue paying £50 for an excellent steak, but at that price and at a restaurant specifically known for its steaks, I expected considerably better quality and flavor. Between the lack of flexibility for a solo diner and a very underwhelming ribeye, it was a disappointing final meal in Scotland.
