Place that sells a lot of porridge, and also other hong kong dish One waitress who speak fluent english is very friendly and helpful Order with machine and self serve( no tips needed when paying) Porridge is huge, also come with one drink can upgrade to ice drink Tried the hongkong french toast, its crisp and peanut butter filling inside. Food all not bad, but not my taste. Many seats and spacious. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

Overall, may come back again but won't recommend it to anyone (& definitely won't order the porridges to-go because it's overpriced.) Price went up since the "soft opening". I only like their rice porridges and usually visit them early in the morning, because my experiences visiting them around noon (on a weekday!) weren't great and people left plenty of leftovers on the table during those visits. I'd say their rice porridge is worth the try in the restaurant, because the sauce/side dish bar is only available for dine-in customer. didn't try anything outside of the porridges combo though. Tried most of their teas. Water quality was bad during the soft opening. My last visit was back to see if they took my advice and installed a purifier, and I see the purifier was installed on a poster. xD when I asked for a water with no ice (because the "free"water available in the sauce bar is tainted with lemon. I was bluntly refused. If they did install and use a water filtration system, the quality is not up by much (based on lemon water available in the lobby). Sauce bar usually is missing some ingredients no matter when I come. Never really expected a Chinese restaurant with good service, so believe the reviews of bad service but take it with the grain of salt, because they just don't know what is good service. BTW, didn't see any of those who provide good service during the soft opening. Service is a hit and miss during all visits. They replaced the front desk worker with machine. The guy who made tea were nice and came over when he sees me taking my time with the machine (it's before 8am and no one is behind me). But that middle-aged lady who bluntly refused my request for water was not only rude but also refused to speak English. So keep that in mind if you don't speak Cantonese remembering. This is a " authentic" Chinese restaurant. Giving my preference for early breakfast and love for the rice porridges, I may settle and come back again. My last visit greatly reduced the chance tho. p.s. plastics utensil is not very environmentally friendly. p.s.2. for those who didn't know that CA is one of those states that pays minimum wage for all workers including waiters and waitresses, CA pays STATE min. wage to them all. Tip-flation should be considered in pricing as this restaurant is obviously including the tips in their pricing. So if you included tips (which they told you no need to tip 'extra' properly because it's included), the pricing is average. But given the service received and the fact people probably didn't know about the tip-flation and the tip option is still available, it's over priced. I love Chan Kee and is super excited that they are opening up a new location in Rowland Heights! I've been going to Chan Kee since they were still at the small spot right next door with only two staffs (both I believe worked at the Delicious Food Corner in Hacienda Heights). The food menu were limited at that time but that has since changed. Their menu now are more extensive offering a huge variety of both breakfast and lunch items. Their combo selections are great and reasonably priced. They don't accept tips or cash. You can now also order by phone which is a great option for take outs. Chan Kee opens bright and early at 7:30am and a line usually starts to form after 9am but the wait isn't that bad. The staffs are all very friendly which always makes my dine in experience wonderful. I highly recommend coming here for breakfast and lunch!
