This place was COMPLETELY not worth it. We went for my daughter’s birthday as a party of 7 and the first impression was……. RUDE. Only ONE person even smiled at us and it was a shorter guy who appeared to be a manager. We simply didn’t feel welcome AT ALL. We were a mixed white and Spanish group and before the “it’s a cultural thing” garbage starts, my son’s godfather is Indian and I’ve grown up around them. They are NOT this way. The ONLY person who checked on us regularly was one of what I believe to be a bus person. The woman was Spanish and was the only reason we had water and napkins because no one else seemed to care. The food was incredibly underwhelming and tasted lazy and cheap. One standout was the lamb chops. They were really good. Other than that, nothing here you can’t get at a take out only spot anywhere in the US. The Butter chicken was exceptionally MID and was basically chicken (cooked well I might add) in a cheap tomato sauce, nothing rich or savory about it. Another stand out was the tall guy who also seemed like a manager. He stood out because he had a horribly unpleasant personality. Also, and this is a BIG also, they are THIEVES. They added an 18% tip for service when we literally had to ask the bus lady for water, napkins, etc. Parties of 8 or more usually have a tip added but there were 7 of us and the service SUCKED. I would NOT have left 18% on a $350 bill. I MIGHT have left 10%. Guess they add it up front because they know that their service is trash and they will get stiffed every time. This dumpster is in EDISON so there are TONS of Indian spots, and most are CERTAINLY better than this hell hole. We won’t be back. Chef's Table was a pleasant surprise based on my experience with other similar Indian restaurants. Went on a weekday night. 2 people with plenty of food ordered was about $115. The service is good and appropriate - neither slow, nor overbearing. The aam panna drink was a refreshing change from the bottled preservative laden stuff usually found in restaurants. Their presentation is charming and helpings are fair. Special mention for the pav bhaji appetizer and the kulfi falooda. The bhaji came in a fondue pot and the kulfi came over a pot of dry ice. The complimentary salad was wonderful with a rose cut radish no less, besides the lime, green chilli, cucumber, tomato and red onions. It's a BYOB place. A liquor license would be a wonderful addition. All in all, a great experience and definitely will be back.
