I stopped by Tsuto in Samdeok-dong, Daegu, and man—this place really nails that classic Japanese tonkatsu joint vibe. Walking in felt like stepping into a small neighborhood spot somewhere in Japan. Cozy, quiet, and focused on the food. I went for the tare katsu, and yeah that sweet tare sauce totally hits my palate. Rich, a little sweet, and glossy—exactly my style. The pork itself was nicely cooked and paired well with the sauce. That said, the side dishes were a bit underwhelming compared to how good the main was. Not bad, just didn’t really stand out. I also added an extra order of curry. Flavor-wise, it was solid and satisfying, but the portion was honestly pretty small for an add-on. Left me wishing for a couple more spoonfuls. Overall, this is a legit spot if you’re into Japanese-style katsu and especially if you like sweeter sauces. A few tweaks on the sides and portion size, and it’d be an easy repeat for me. 삼덕동은 대부분 브레이크 타임이 3시라서, 시간 맞춰 부랴부랴 이동했는데, 운 좋게도 가게 앞에 주차까지 성공! 거리에서 보면 마치 일본 어느 골목에서나 한 번쯤 마주쳤을 법한 식당이 눈에 띄어요. 문을 열고 들어가면, 여긴 정말 한국 속 작은 일본! 직원분들의 인사부터 주문, 식탁 위 소품, 벽에 붙은 포스터까지-모두 신품처럼 깔끔해서 '여기 진짜 정성 들였구나!' 하는 느낌이 팍 옵니다. 개인적으로, 일본에서도 대기업 프랜차이즈 말고 이렇게 깔끔하게 관리되는 식당은 찾기 힘들었던 기억이 있어요. 아마도 오래된 가게라서, 그리고 동네 주민들이 자주 찾는 곳이라서 그런 것 같아요. 이곳도 30년, 아니 백 년 후에도 여전히 그 자리에 남아있길, 그래서 다시 와서 한 끼 할 수 있길 진심으로 바랍니다. 이 집 돈카츠, 고기가 정말 부드러워서 한 입 먹고 감탄! 마지막 한 점까지 느끼하지 않아서 좋았어요. 여기서 와이프와 의견이 살짝 갈렸는데, 건너편 집이 더 맛있다고 하더라고요. 물론 그 집도 훌륭하지만, 저는 거기 고기가 좀 더 퍽퍽했던 기억이 역시 취향 차이란 게 재밌네요. 새우튀김은 속이 부드러워서 제 입에는 딱이었는데, 와이프는 좀 더 바삭했으면 좋겠다고 하네요. 국물은 개인적으로 좀 더 담백했으면 하는 아쉬움이 남았습니다. 그래도 지금까지 먹어본 돈카츠 중에서 고기가 가장 부드러웠던 집! 다음에도 또 오고 싶은 곳이에요.
